Disneyland Guests Hop Out of Train, Climb Uphill in Unauthorized Area

A recent breakdown of Disneyland Park’s iconic Casey Jr. Circus Train ride left several guests in a unique situation: after being temporarily trapped, they were guided through an unauthorized area uphill, all while the attraction was shut down.

The Casey Jr. Circus Train, one of Disneyland Resort’s opening-day attractions, provides a whimsical, family-friendly journey through Storybook Land. The ride offers a close-up view of miniature versions of famous Disney scenes from films like Aladdin (1992), Cinderella (1950), and The Little Mermaid (1989). Interestingly, the ride closed shortly after opening on July 17, 1955, due to safety concerns. It was closed for two weeks before reopening on July 31, 1955.

Earlier this month, a breakdown caused the Casey Jr. Circus Train to stop unexpectedly, leaving guests stranded aboard. One Disney Park guest, @izzys.busy._, shared her experience on TikTok, capturing the moment riders were stuck.

“Throwback to getting stuck on the Casey Jr. Train in Disneyland…Stuck in a literal cage,” she wrote. “It was literally a locked cage.”

The short video shows the trapped guests waiting for help, followed by footage of Disneyland Resort cast members unlocking safety restraints and escorting them off the ride. The cast members led them through a typically restricted area, uphill and back into Fantasyland.

It’s still unclear what caused the breakdown, as Disneyland Resort rarely releases detailed statements about minor incidents. This event followed the usual pattern of not providing specifics about such occurrences.

The Casey Jr. Circus Train reopened after the incident but shut down soon after for its scheduled refurbishment. Disneyland Resort’s refurbishment calendar lists the train’s closure through at least September 9, 2025, with no official reopening date in sight. Guests are encouraged to check back for updates on the official website or the Disneyland Resort app.
