Alarms Ring Out at Disneyland as Guests Are Told To Evacuate

Guests were evacuated from part of Disneyland Resort on March 17, marking the latest in a series of recent disruptions at the California theme park.

The incident did not result in any reported injuries, and operations appeared to return to normal shortly after. Disneyland has not confirmed the cause of the evacuation.

The update comes during a period of heightened attention on park operations. Earlier this month, five Disneyland cast members were taken to the hospital after a chemical reaction backstage near Star Tours – The Adventures Continue in Tomorrowland.

Separately, Anaheim Police responded to false reports of an active shooter and bomb threats, prompting a visible law enforcement presence at the resort.

Disneyland has also faced serious incidents in the past. Notoriously, a fire during Fantasmic! forced guests to evacuate when the Maleficent dragon animatronic caught flames, and a Big Thunder Mountain Railroad derailment injured 10 guests and killed one.

Dry ice explosions in Mickey’s Toontown have also led to emergency responses, adding to the park’s history of rare but notable incidents.

Main Street Evacuation Details

The March 17 evacuation centered on the west side of Main Street, U.S.A., affecting multiple locations rather than a single attraction.

Guests reported hearing alarms inside nearby buildings throughout the day. “Wonder if it’s tied to the Jungle Cruise refurbishment,” one guest wrote (via Reddit). “It goes behind that whole side.”

One visitor said they were asked to leave the Emporium immediately. “The alarm sounded and they told everyone to put down the merchandise and leave right away…didn’t see why,” they wrote.

Other nearby locations were also impacted. “I noticed that Carnation and Gibson Girl were closed with a bunch of people standing around in the street and then took this picture while walking out,” another guest shared. “I don’t think it has anything to do with the seating or hazmat but things are definitely wild these days.”

Guests noted scaffolding in the area, suggesting construction could have played a role. Disneyland has not confirmed whether refurbishment work contributed to the evacuation.

Evacuations Not Uncommon at Disney Parks

Evacuations at Disneyland are not unusual and can be triggered by a range of issues, including fires, guest behavior, or ride malfunctions.

In 2015, a backstage fire near “it’s a small world” prompted a temporary evacuation after flames — likely caused by fireworks fallout — were quickly contained. No injuries were reported.

In 2025, a guest incident in New Orleans Square led to an evacuation after a nude man climbed onto Tiana’s Palace. He was later arrested.

Ride breakdowns also lead to evacuations. In 2023, a Disneyland Railroad locomotive stopped on a trestle bridge, requiring cast members to escort guests off the train.

The March 17 incident appears to have been brief and limited in scope. However, it adds to a growing number of operational disruptions reported at Disneyland Resort in recent weeks.
