Disneyland Fans Shocked as 9 Beloved Rides Close in September 2025
If there’s one thing Disneyland has never done, it’s stand still. From its beginning in 1955, the park has been in a constant state of transformation. New lands appear, rides are refreshed, and seasonal overlays keep things fresh for returning guests.
September 2025 is bringing a massive overhaul to Disney parks. Nine attractions are scheduled to close across Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Some will be gone for only a few days, while others are stepping away for longer refurbishments.
Tomorrowland’s Intergalactic Adventure
Star Tours: The Adventures Continue has been offline since late June, leaving Tomorrowland with one less thrill. Known for its randomized Star Wars adventures, the ride always feels new thanks to its rotating destinations and characters. Guests won’t have to wait much longer, though.
Disneyland’s calendar shows the simulator returning to life on September 5, and fresh enhancements will be included to make the experience even more immersive.
Fantasyland Favorites Take a Break
Fantasyland is seeing more closures than any other land this month. The Casey Jr. Circus Train, with its whimsical animal cage cars and storybook scenery, has been closed since August and still doesn’t have a reopening date listed.
Similarly, the Storybook Land Canal Boats have been shuttered since July 21. This charming boat ride carries guests past tiny recreations of Disney fairytale settings, from Elsa’s frozen palace to Agrabah. For now, the reopening date remains unknown.
Adding to the Fantasyland downtime, Dumbo the Flying Elephant will close on September 16 and 17. The break is short, but given Dumbo’s place as one of Disneyland’s most iconic rides, even two days without it will be noticeable.
Frontierland Closures
Over in Frontierland, the biggest closure is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The “wildest ride in the wilderness” officially shut down on September 2 for what Disneyland describes as a significant refurbishment. With no reopening date confirmed, this could be a lengthy pause for one of the park’s most beloved coasters.
Frontierland also loses the Mark Twain Riverboat from September 8 through 11. This scenic paddlewheel boat drifts around the Rivers of America and will return on September 12.
Pirates and Islands
September also brings a short closure to Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island. Guests won’t be able to raft over between September 15 and 17.
While only for a few days, this does limit families who enjoy exploring the caves, suspension bridges, and pirate-themed hideaways.
Nostalgia on Main Street
Main Street, U.S.A., is losing some of its charm for much of the month. The Main Street Cinema—recently updated with a Sherman Brothers tribute—will go dark from September 8 through 25.
When it reopens on September 26, guests can enter and enjoy a nod to Disney’s film history.
Radiator Springs Races to Reopen
Disney California Adventure has only one ride affected, but it’s a major one: Radiator Springs Racers. Closed since August 18, the attraction is undergoing track resurfacing and lighting updates. Fans of Cars Land will need patience, as it’s not scheduled to return until September 25.
Disneyland’s Legacy of Change
Nine closures in one month might feel overwhelming, but this is the rhythm of Disneyland. Walt Disney himself declared the park would never be finished. Each refurbishment, update, and overlay is part of a bigger promise—that the magic will always stay alive.
Guests visiting in September may miss a few favorites, but they’ll also be reassured that when those rides return, they’ll be ready to create new memories for future generations.
