Disneyland continues to evolve, catering to the tastes of its diverse visitor base. Recently, the theme park has expanded its alcoholic beverage options, allowing guests to enjoy a wider selection during their visits. These changes, while met with some controversy, signal a shift in the park’s long-standing stance on alcohol.

One notable addition to Disneyland’s beverage menu is a new dining package, available exclusively to select guests. This package not only enhances the dining experience but also reflects Disneyland’s desire to keep pace with modern preferences. By introducing this offering, the park acknowledges the growing demand for alcoholic beverages among its visitors while still maintaining its family-oriented atmosphere.

Details of the Star Wars Dining Package

The new dining package is inspired by the immensely popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction. It is designed to create a memorable experience for guests, combining themed dining with an exclusive opportunity to enjoy select alcoholic beverages. Priced at $89 per guest, this package includes a delicious meal, a specialty alcoholic drink, and unlimited soft drinks, ensuring a satisfying culinary experience.

In addition to the food and drinks, the package provides access to a premium viewing spot for the captivating Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge nighttime fireworks show.
However, guests should note that for those opting for alcoholic drinks as part of this package, consumption is restricted to the Docking Bay 7 venue. This regulation helps maintain a sense of decorum while enabling guests to savor their drinks in a designated area.

For many years, Disneyland has been known for its “dry” reputation. When the park opened in 1955, Walt Disney himself opposed the sale of alcohol, fearing it would compromise the family-friendly environment he envisioned. This perspective shaped the park’s culture for decades, making alcohol a rarity in Disneyland.

However, the landscape began to change in 2019, most notably with the introduction of Oga’s Cantina in Galaxy’s Edge. This was a significant turning point, as it marked Disneyland’s first step toward allowing guests to enjoy alcoholic beverages during their visit. While alcohol offerings remained minimal, the presence of a themed cantina was a major step in broadening the park’s beverage options.

In contrast to Disneyland, Walt Disney World has fully embraced the inclusion of alcohol across its parks. Guests at Walt Disney World have access to a vast array of alcoholic options, including a variety of beers, wines, and cocktails available almost everywhere. This difference in approach illustrates Disneyland’s more cautious transition towards alcohol, prioritizing its historical commitment to family-friendly experiences.

Recent announcements from Walt Disney World, including new breakfast alcoholic options, further highlight the diverging paths taken by the two parks. These moves influence trends within the broader Disney resort ecosystem and provide insights into evolving guest preferences over time. While Disneyland remains selective, the trend of expanding alcoholic offerings could potentially lead to more inclusive practices in the future.
