Disneyland Appears to Delay a Character Breakfast Closure—but Its Own Pages Conflict

What Guests Should Know Before Planning Your Dining Options

Breakfast at Disneyland can be a carefully planned affair. It is especially so when the meal includes Minnie Mouse, a buffet and a reservation window that can open before the rest of a family’s vacation itinerary feels real.

Now, guests planning an August visit may have one more week to experience that ritual—but they should check their reservations carefully.

A newly captured notice indicates that Disneyland has moved the temporary interruption of Plaza Inn’s character breakfast from August 10 to August 17, 2026. The revised language says the experience is expected to return in late September, leaving that portion of the timeline unchanged.

There is one important complication: as of July 31, the official U.S. Plaza Inn webpage accessible during Inside the Magic’s review continued to display August 10. A Theme Park IQ schedule capture, meanwhile, showed the later August 17 date.

That discrepancy makes the apparent one-week reprieve useful—but not yet as tidy as vacationers would prefer.

Disneyland’s Plaza Inn Dates No Longer Tell One Clear Story

Disneyland originally informed guests that character dining at Plaza Inn would become temporarily unavailable on August 10. Inside the Magic covered that initial announcement when Disneyland first disclosed the late-summer Plaza Inn interruption.

The newer notice reads: “The Character Dining experience at Plaza Inn will be temporarily unavailable starting August 17, 2026, and is expected to return in late September.”

If August 17 is the operative date, families visiting from August 10 through August 16 may gain seven additional mornings to reserve Minnie & Friends – Breakfast in the Park. However, the competing dates mean guests should not make or change plans based solely on either webpage.

Anyone holding a Plaza Inn breakfast reservation between August 10 and August 16 should check “My Plans” in the Disneyland app and review any communication attached to the booking. Disney’s page says reservations can be modified through the app or its dining-reservation system.

Guests without reservations should also remember that availability is not guaranteed. Disneyland recommends booking in advance and generally releases dining reservations up to 60 days before a visit.

The Plaza Inn Restaurant Is Not Confirmed to Be Closing

The distinction that matters most is hiding in Disney’s wording: this is a temporary interruption of the Character Dining experience, not a confirmed closure of the entire restaurant.

Plaza Inn serves Minnie & Friends during breakfast, but lunch and dinner operate without characters. Disney’s restaurant page currently lists regular operating hours and explains that reservations are not required for its standard lunch or dinner service.

That means the restaurant’s fried chicken and Main Street patio should not be described as disappearing alongside Minnie Mouse unless Disneyland announces a broader closure. Plaza Inn has remained a familiar part of the park’s dining landscape, including for guests seeking one of Disneyland’s more shareable meals on a budget, as highlighted in Inside the Magic’s Disneyland budget-dining guide.

The breakfast interruption nevertheless removes something Plaza Inn’s other meals cannot replace. Disney identifies Minnie & Friends as the only character-dining experience inside Disneyland Park. Characters circulate during the buffet, allowing families to combine breakfast with several interactions rather than spending part of the morning waiting in separate meet-and-greet lines.

That convenience now costs more, too. Plaza Inn was included in Disneyland’s latest round of restaurant price increases, raising the financial stakes for guests deciding whether the meal still belongs in their plans.

Character Dining Will Remain Available Elsewhere at Disneyland Resort

The pause does not remove character dining from the entire Disneyland Resort.

Disney’s character-dining directory lists alternatives outside the parks, including Mickey’s Tales of Adventure at Storytellers Cafe and Goofy’s Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel. Storytellers offers character buffets at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, while Goofy’s Kitchen serves character meals at the Disneyland Hotel.

Those restaurants may help families preserve a character meal during the Plaza Inn gap, but they are not like-for-like replacements. They require leaving Disneyland Park, and prices, character lineups and reservation availability differ.

The interruption also follows the scheduled end of Plaza Inn’s Paint the Night dining package, another recent reduction in the restaurant’s reservation-based offerings. By contrast, Plaza Inn’s character breakfast has returned from previous interruptions before, including its August 2021 reopening.

Recent exterior work adds visual context but does not explain the pause. Scrim has reportedly appeared around part of the restaurant, and a tree that fell near Plaza Inn during a February storm was replaced in June. Disney has not said the character-dining interruption is connected to either project.

For now, August 17 appears to be the revised date guests should watch. Until Disney’s pages and reservation inventory agree, however, the safest takeaway is simpler: verify the individual booking before rearranging an August Disneyland morning around Minnie Mouse.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
