Disney World Revives Hated System Just in Time for May the 4th Chaos

Big news, Star Wars fans: Disney is dusting off the Virtual Queue system just in time for May the 4th, and it’s bringing with it a shopping experience you won’t want to miss! Even better? It’s happening at a rarely-used Disney location that’s making a surprising comeback for this one-day-only event.

Here’s the full breakdown so you’re ready to jump to hyperspace (and grab that merch).

The Virtual Queue Makes a Surprise Return to Disney World

If you’ve been around Walt Disney World the last couple years, you know Virtual Queues have popped up for the hottest attractions. But lately? It’s been pretty quiet. The last Virtual Queue use inside the parks was all the way back on February 24, 2025, before Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure dropped their boarding groups and switched to good old-fashioned standby lines.

Now, for a limited time, the Virtual Queue is back — not for a ride this time, but for merchandise. And not just any merchandise: limited-edition Star Wars goodies!

May the 4th Virtual Queue Details

Here’s what Disney has officially shared about how the Virtual Queue will work for the May the 4th merchandise event:

  • When: Sunday, May 4, 2025

  • Where: Stage 1 Company Store (Muppets Courtyard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios)

  • What’s for sale: Star Wars-themed apparel for adults and kids, brand-new collectibles, and limited-release pins.

How to Join:

  • You’ll need the My Disney Experience app.

  • A valid ticket and Disney’s Hollywood Studios park reservation (if required) are mandatory.

  • Virtual Queue will open bright and early at 7:00 AM Eastern Time on May 4.

Heads Up:

  • Getting a Virtual Queue spot does NOT guarantee you’ll snag the merch you want.

  • Merchandise is limited and could sell out quickly.

  • Purchase limits will be enforced.

One of the coolest parts of this event? It’s happening at the Stage 1 Company Store — a location that many Disney regulars thought was gone for good.

This tucked-away shop in Muppets Courtyard hasn’t seen regular use for a while. Rumors have been swirling that Disney is prepping the area for a Monsters, Inc.-themed land, which would likely mean a major transformation (and the end) of the Muppets Courtyard as we know it.

This Star Wars Day event might just be the last time fans can step into Stage 1 Company Store in its current form. Talk about a hidden gem for Disney history lovers!

How to Maximize Your Chance to Shop

If you want in, here’s what we recommend:

  • Download or update the My Disney Experience app BEFORE May 4.

  • Be online by 6:50 AM Eastern to be ready for the 7:00 AM queue opening.

  • Double-check your ticket and park reservation — no ticket, no entry!

  • Move quickly — spots in the queue could fill up in seconds.

Between the return of Virtual Queue, the rare reopening of a piece of Disney World history, and the chance to grab some seriously cool Star Wars merch, this May the 4th celebration is shaping up to be next-level.

If you’re planning to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, get ready for an early morning — and may the merch be with you!
