Disney World Prepares To Reopen 14-Year-Old Magic Kingdom Favorite

One of Magic Kingdom’s ongoing refurbishment projects appears to be entering its final stretch.

Big Top Souvenirs has been closed in Storybook Circus since February 20, leaving guests without one of the most recognizable locations in this corner of Fantasyland. Disney always planned to bring the shop back later in 2026, but it never announced an exact reopening date.

Now, nearly six months after the closure began, there are some major signs that its return is getting close.

Disney has removed the scaffolding from around Big Top Souvenirs, construction walls are disappearing, and the refreshed exterior is becoming visible again.

For a location that has been part of Magic Kingdom’s modern Fantasyland era for roughly 14 years, that’s a promising development.

A Lengthy Magic Kingdom Closure Is Nearing Its End

Big Top Souvenirs closed on February 20 for a refurbishment that Disney said would last until sometime later in 2026. Disney’s official page still lists the location as temporarily closed and says it is expected to reopen later this year.

The work became much more substantial than simply putting a fresh coat of paint on the building.

During the refurbishment, crews removed the massive tent covering, exposing the steel structure beneath it. A new tent covering was eventually installed, giving Big Top Souvenirs a refreshed appearance as work continued through the summer.

Now we’re seeing another important change.

All exterior scaffolding has been removed. Some construction walls remain, but much of the area is now blocked by rolling planters instead. Disney has also revealed the renovated Big Top Souvenirs sign.

Those aren’t guarantees that reopening day is immediately around the corner, but they show just how far the project has progressed.

Storybook Circus Is Coming Back Together

Big Top Souvenirs dates back to the Storybook Circus transformation that became part of the New Fantasyland expansion era.

The circus-themed location offers much more than the average Disney gift shop. Guests have traditionally been able to find souvenirs and collectible pins alongside snacks, sweet treats and cold drinks.

Its giant striped tent also makes it difficult to miss.

That has made the closure especially noticeable for guests walking through Storybook Circus over the last several months.

Fortunately, the area is starting to feel more complete again.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow underwent refurbishment work of its own before reopening in June.

Big Top Souvenirs now appears to be following it toward the finish line.

Construction Walls Are Disappearing

There are several smaller signs that work is wrapping up, too.

Walls that previously surrounded a planter near the Storybook Circus entrance have been removed, and crews have added fresh mulch. Scaffolding that had been visible behind the tent is also gone.

Disney hasn’t announced a reopening date, so guests shouldn’t make plans around a specific day just yet.

Still, Disney has already confirmed the most important part: Big Top Souvenirs is returning in 2026.

And after nearly six months of construction, we’re finally reaching the point where the 14-year-old Fantasyland favorite looks ready to welcome guests again.

The tent is back. The refurbished sign has been revealed. Scaffolding is gone. Construction walls are disappearing.

Now we’re just waiting for Disney to reopen the doors.
