Disney’s Old Key West Confirms Immediate Shutdown of Resort Areas

One of Walt Disney World’s Deluxe Villa Resort hotel properties just went quiet in a few key spots, and guests checking in over the next two months will notice it right away.

As of Thursday, March 5, Disney’s Old Key West Resort has shuttered the South Point Pool and Spa, its BBQ area, and its playground. Walt Disney World Resort confirmed the closures on its official website, citing routine refurbishment as the reason. The affected areas are expected to remain closed through “late April 2026.”

For families already booked during that stretch, Disney is directing guests toward the Sandcastle Pool or two other onsite leisure options — the Turtle Pond Pool and Miller’s Road Pool — while the work is underway. The resort also notes that guests may “see or hear maintenance activity” during daytime hours, though Disney makes a point of keeping construction noise confined to waking hours when most visitors are out exploring the theme parks or Disney Springs. Anyone with questions is encouraged to stop by the Front Desk.

This is far from the first closure Disney’s Old Key West Resort has navigated recently. Earlier this year, the Turtle Pond Pool, Spa, BBQ area, and playground underwent their own rounds of routine maintenance, shutting down for several weeks before coming back online.

The refurbishment activity doesn’t stop at the pools, either. Olivia’s Cafe, the resort’s Table-Service dining spot, recently underwent a decor overhaul — one that sparked real frustration among Disney Vacation Club members. As part of the refresh, Disney removed hundreds of personal family vacation photos that DVC owners had contributed over the years, a move that many who call Old Key West their home resort did not take lightly.

Room updates are also rolling through the property in phases, with Disney staggering the work to reduce the impact on guests currently staying there.
