Disney World Officially Sets Closure Date for Popular Restaurant in May 2026

Walt Disney World rarely stands still. The resort constantly updates rides, refreshes hotels, and adjusts experiences across its massive property. Sometimes those changes come with major announcements. Other times, they quietly appear without much warning until guests begin noticing something different.

That’s exactly what is happening right now with one well-known Disney dining location.

Fans planning upcoming vacations recently noticed a surprising change when checking dining reservations. A restaurant that has long been considered a Disney staple is preparing to disappear from the calendar.

Disney has now confirmed that one of its most recognizable resort restaurants will stop serving guests beginning in May 2026.

For many visitors, the news may come as a shock—especially for those who have made the location part of their Disney traditions.

Why Dining Matters So Much at Disney World

For many guests, dining plays just as big a role in a Disney vacation as rides and shows. While attractions often take center stage, restaurant reservations frequently shape the entire schedule of a park day.

Walt Disney World offers an enormous range of dining experiences. Some locations focus on quick meals between attractions, while others offer carefully designed environments and high-end menus that feel more like fine dining.

Signature restaurants stand out the most. Over the years, places like Be Our Guest, San Angel Inn Restaurante, and Roundup Rodeo BBQ have built devoted followings among returning visitors.

Many guests plan their reservations months in advance just to secure a table.

Interestingly, some of Disney’s most popular restaurants aren’t located inside the parks themselves. Instead, they sit inside Disney Resort hotels, offering guests a quieter dining experience away from the crowds.

This Iconic Restaurant Is Going Dark

Disney has confirmed that the signature dining location inside Disney’s Yacht Club Resort will cease operations beginning in May 2026.

The restaurant in question is Yachtsman Steakhouse.

For years, Yachtsman Steakhouse has served as one of the EPCOT resort area’s most respected dining locations. The restaurant blends a classic New England steakhouse aesthetic with a menu that centers on high-quality steaks and seafood.

Starting in May 2026, however, the restaurant will close as Disney begins a major refurbishment project. According to Disney’s current timeline, Yachtsman Steakhouse will remain closed throughout the summer and is expected to reopen sometime in August 2026.

That schedule means guests visiting during peak summer travel season may find one of the area’s most recognizable signature restaurants unavailable.

The restaurant has long been known for its quiet atmosphere, nautical-inspired design, and reputation for expertly prepared steaks. Over the years, it has become a favorite among Disney fans looking for a refined dining experience near EPCOT.

While Disney has not yet shared detailed renovation plans, the extended closure suggests the space will receive a meaningful refresh.

Construction Is Already Happening Nearby

The restaurant’s closure is part of a much larger refurbishment underway at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

Guests visiting the EPCOT-area hotel recently may have noticed construction walls, scaffolding, and work crews around portions of the property. Disney has been completing a large exterior refurbishment to refresh the resort’s appearance and address long-term maintenance needs.

These types of projects happen regularly at Walt Disney World hotels. Disney periodically renovates its resorts to keep them looking polished while maintaining their signature themes.

At the Yacht Club, crews are focusing on exterior improvements and structural work. Disney expects the larger refurbishment project to continue through late 2026.

Coordinating the restaurant renovation alongside the broader resort project may allow Disney to complete improvements more efficiently while construction teams are already working on site.

For guests staying at the resort during this time, some construction activity may be visible—but it also signals that Disney is investing heavily in the property’s future.

Other Restaurants Guests Can Still Visit

Even though Yachtsman Steakhouse will be unavailable on the reservation calendar for a time, several dining options remain nearby.

Disney’s Yacht Club and Beach Club Resorts share the same waterfront area, giving guests easy access to multiple restaurants within a short walk.

Some of the closest options include:

  • Ale & Compass Restaurant (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A relaxed table-service restaurant serving breakfast and dinner with coastal-inspired comfort dishes.

  • Ale & Compass Lounge (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A casual lounge offering drinks and smaller plates.

  • The Market at Ale & Compass (Disney’s Yacht Club Resort)
A quick-service location with sandwiches, pastries, and coffee.

  • Cape May Cafe (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A buffet restaurant known for seafood and a popular character breakfast.

  • Martha’s Vineyard (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A lounge serving beverages and light snacks.

  • Beaches & Cream Soda Shop (Disney’s Beach Club Resort)
A well-known dessert spot famous for burgers and large ice cream creations.

Because both resorts sit beside EPCOT’s International Gateway entrance, guests can also walk directly into World Showcase for even more dining options.

A Pause Before the Restaurant Returns

Closures at Walt Disney World can disappoint fans, especially when they affect locations that have become long-standing traditions.

Still, most restaurant closures signal improvement rather than removal.

That appears to be the case for Yachtsman Steakhouse.

While the restaurant will step away beginning in May 2026, the refurbishment should help ensure the experience remains fresh when it returns later in the year.

When the doors reopen, guests may find the familiar steakhouse has received thoughtful updates—allowing it to remain one of the EPCOT resort area’s most respected dining locations.
