Magic Kingdom Guests Locked Out of Main Street Experience Families Have Known for Five Decades

The most-walked stretch of pavement at Walt Disney World Resort is getting a refresh, meaning that, for now, parts of the path that has welcomed Magic Kingdom Park guests since 1971 are temporarily out of reach.

Disney Dining first reported last week that ropes and stanchions had appeared along a sizable section of sidewalk outside the Crystal Arts store on Main Street, U.S.A., blocking Magic Kingdom Park guests from walking through the area during an ongoing pavement repair project.

By Monday, March 23, the first phase of repairs had already wrapped up overnight. On Facebook, WDWNT shared a photo of the finished work outside Crystal Arts, showing a clean pour of fresh pavement that stands out immediately against the weathered surface surrounding it:

The ropes and stanchions haven’t come down yet, as the newly poured section is still curing and needs protection from the thousands of guests passing through. Disney cast members are stationed throughout the blocked area during peak times — rope drop, parades, and other high-traffic periods — steering Magic Kingdom Park guests toward the walkways that remain open.

Main Street, U.S.A. isn’t finished with its repairs just yet. Further down the road, a second damaged section of sidewalk has been covered with red and yellow safety boards, keeping the area passable for guests while crews work their way toward it. The same fresh pavement treatment that resolved the section outside Crystal Arts is the likely next step for that spot as well.

Walt Disney World Resort has not publicly addressed the project or outlined how much of Main Street, U.S.A.’s pavement is in line for repair. Disney Dining will continue tracking the work as it progresses.
