Shared Living Spaces Can Bring Unexpected Challenges for Disney Program Participants
Living with roommates is a common reality for participants in the Disney College Program and other operational roles who reside at Flamingo Crossings Village. While the experience can be rewarding, it also requires navigating shared responsibilities—from kitchen use to cleaning schedules.
For many residents, the apartment kitchens become a central gathering place after long shifts inside the parks. It’s where roommates cook meals, unwind, and talk about the day’s experiences helping guests create memories at Walt Disney World.
However, disagreements over shared spaces can occasionally escalate into more serious conflicts.
According to law enforcement officials, that’s exactly what happened during a late-night incident earlier this week inside one of the apartment units.
Deputies Responded Late at Night to a Disturbance Inside the Housing Complex
On the evening of March 10, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Flamingo Crossings Apartments East, located at 12290 Sandpiper Landing Way in Bay Lake, Florida.
Authorities arrived around 10:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a physical altercation inside one of the apartment units.
The housing complex primarily serves participants in the Disney College Program, though other Disney cast members and operational participants may also reside there.
When deputies arrived at the apartment, they encountered one of the residents involved in the dispute, identified in the arrest report as Sophia.
According to deputies, the situation stemmed from a disagreement between roommates that had been escalating throughout the day.
A Kitchen Dispute Quickly Spiraled Into a Physical Altercation
Sophia told deputies the confrontation began while she was cooking and involved an argument about the use of the stove.
She claimed the other roommate removed a pan she had been using and placed it on her bed in the shared living space. When Sophia later entered the room, she told deputies she was struck in the back with an unknown object.
Sophia stated she pushed the roommate in response, leading to both individuals exchanging punches before separating.
However, the other resident involved in the incident provided deputies with a different account.
The individual, whose identity is protected under Florida’s Marsy’s Law for crime victims, spoke with deputies through a Japanese language interpreter. She said tensions had been building earlier in the day and that she had moved the pan into the bedroom before the confrontation escalated.
According to her statement, Sophia became upset, picked up the pan—still filled with food—and returned to the kitchen.
Investigators Say a Pan Was Used as a Weapon During the Incident
Deputies reported that Sophia allegedly raised the pan with both hands and struck the victim in the face, causing food to spill and splatter across the kitchen walls.
Law enforcement officials documented visible injuries to the victim’s face, arms, and fingers, including cuts, bruising, and swelling. Deputies also observed food stains on the victim’s clothing and food splatter inside the apartment consistent with the reported incident.
Investigators photographed the injuries, the pan believed to have been used during the altercation, and the scene inside the kitchen. Those images were entered into evidence as part of the case.
Orange County Fire Rescue treated the victim at the scene. According to deputies, the victim told investigators she feared for her safety during the confrontation and indicated she wished to pursue charges and testify in court.
Sophia later reported chest pain during the investigation and was transported to AdventHealth Celebration for evaluation before being taken into custody.
Based on the investigation, deputies determined that Sophia intentionally struck the victim with the pan. Authorities classified the object as a deadly weapon in this situation.
Sophia was arrested on a charge of Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm under Florida Statute 784.045 and was later booked into the Orange County Jail system.

Incidents like this remain rare but highlight the challenges that can arise in shared living environments—especially in housing communities that accommodate residents from different backgrounds and cultures.
For Disney College Program participants and other cast members living at Flamingo Crossings Village, the experience is typically focused on building friendships, career opportunities, and memorable moments while working at Walt Disney World Resort.
