Disney World Incident: Fire Breaks Out Inside EPCOT

Guests strolling past the shimmering waters of World Showcase Lagoon recently got an unexpected sight in the France Pavilion—and it wasn’t a new menu item or festival booth.

Instead, eyes turned upward as an orange glow appeared above a display crate near a popular wine kiosk, and the usual hum of evening conversation shifted into anxious whispers and raised voices. In a park known for leisurely sipping and snacking around the world, how does a moment like this ripple into the vacation plans of food-focused Disney fans?

What Sparked Concern in France

The most recent incident unfolded in EPCOT’s France Pavilion near Les Vins des Chefs de France, the kiosk known for serving French wines, Champagne, and specialty beverages along the World Showcase promenade. A TikTok user, identified as @disneycass84, captured video of a small fire that appeared on top of a display crate just behind the kiosk area.

Commenters on social media suggested the fire may have started due to a discarded cigarette, but that theory has not been confirmed by Disney or authorities. Smoking is prohibited inside Walt Disney World theme parks under long-standing resort policies, which require guests who wish to smoke or vape to use designated areas outside the park gates.

How Cast Members Responded

Onlookers watched as Disney Cast Members moved quickly to contain the situation, with two arriving by boat via the nearby lagoon and others, including Culinary Cast Members, using a fire extinguisher to put out the flames. The response appears to have been swift and effective, and there were no reports of injuries connected to the incident.

While the fire itself was relatively small compared to larger park emergencies, any visible flames in a crowded public area can be jarring for guests expecting a calm evening of snacks, drinks, and nighttime entertainment. Short-term impacts can include temporary closures of nearby walkways or kiosks while teams confirm that the area is safe.

A Year of Multiple EPCOT Fires

This is not the first time EPCOT has dealt with fire-related issues in 2025. Earlier in the year, a separate fire occurred behind the France Pavilion, producing noticeable smoke that was visible from around the park and from transportation systems like the Disney Skyliner. Disney officials later confirmed that fire began in a walk-in cooler located backstage and was quickly extinguished without injuries.

In May, a popcorn cart in EPCOT’s World Celebration area also caught fire, leading nearby Cast Members to intervene with extinguishers and escort guests away from the smoke until the situation was resolved. Each of these incidents ended without reported injuries, but together they form a pattern that frequent visitors have noticed.

What It Means for Dining and Vacation Plans

For guests planning EPCOT visits around dining—whether it is a table-service reservation, a festival food crawl, or a relaxed afternoon of wine and pastries—repeated fire incidents naturally raise questions about potential disruptions. In the short term, fires can lead to temporary closures of specific locations, blocked pathways, or pauses in service as safety checks are completed.

However, to date, these fires have not resulted in extended shutdowns of major France Pavilion dining venues or long-term loss of offerings around World Showcase. Disney’s established safety protocols, regular inspections, and on-site fire services are designed to restore normal operations as quickly as possible, which means most guests are likely to experience only minor inconvenience, if any, on a typical vacation day.

The Deeper Question: Safety and Guest Confidence

The larger story here is less about one small fire and more about guest confidence. When multiple incidents occur in the same park over the course of a year, some visitors naturally wonder whether policies—such as smoking restrictions, backstage equipment maintenance, or kiosk safety procedures—might be adjusted or tightened further.

For now, Disney continues to emphasize guest and Cast Member safety and has not announced any new operational changes publicly in connection with these EPCOT fires. For diners planning their next visit, EPCOT remains a centerpiece of the Walt Disney World culinary experience, but this string of incidents is a reminder that behind every glass of wine and every festival snack is a complex safety operation working to keep the magic running smoothly.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
