While refurbishment projects are nothing new across The Walt Disney Company’s theme parks and resorts, guests staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in recent months have reported a growing number of construction signs, closed pathways, and temporary operational changes.

According to official Walt Disney World communications, several refurbishment projects will take place across Disney’s Contemporary Resort beginning in March 2026.
One of the most noticeable changes involves the Skyway Bridge, the walkway connecting Bay Lake Tower and the Contemporary’s Main Tower.
From March 30 through May 1, 2026, the Skyway Bridge will be closed Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The bridge will reopen after 5 p.m. each evening and remain accessible on weekends.
Guests visiting during those hours may need to take alternate travel paths between the two buildings.
At the same time, exterior maintenance on the Main Tower will begin March 23, 2026, which could temporarily impact views from several parts of the resort. Disney also warns that guests may see or hear construction activity during daytime hours while work is underway.
Additional maintenance is scheduled at Bay Lake Tower, where exterior elevator landing repairs will take place from late March through late May 2026.
Several amenities remain closed as part of ongoing maintenance, including the Bay Cove Pool, Cove Bar, water play area, and whirlpool spa at Bay Lake Tower. However, guests still have access to the Main Pool, water play area, and whirlpool spa at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
A Tragic Incident Still Lingers in Guests’ Minds
The construction news arrives months after a deeply troubling incident that shocked the Walt Disney World community.
In October 2025, a devoted Disney fan tragically lost her life at Disney’s Contemporary Resort after jumping from a 12th-floor balcony. The woman, identified as 31-year-old Summer Equitz, had traveled to Florida alone.
Witnesses described hearing a loud crash before realizing what had happened. A married couple staying at the hotel later shared that the victim landed roughly 30 feet from where they were standing on the fourth-floor observation deck.
The tragedy reportedly marked the fifth death at Walt Disney World within a four-week period, leaving many fans shaken.
While Disney has not directly connected the current refurbishment work to safety upgrades related to the incident, some observers believe changes to infrastructure and pathways could help improve overall guest safety.
