Disney World Guests Provided With Shocking Update From Homeland Security

What We Know So Far About the Most Recent Update

For many travelers visiting Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the magic begins long before stepping onto Main Street, U.S.A. The journey itself—booking flights, arriving in Orlando, and preparing for a long-awaited vacation—is all part of the excitement.

International guests, in particular, often spend months planning their Disney vacations. Between securing park tickets, reserving Disney Resort hotels, and coordinating flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO), every detail matters. Even a small disruption in travel logistics can create ripple effects that threaten carefully crafted plans.

Programs designed to streamline travel, like Global Entry, have long been a quiet but essential part of that journey. For frequent international travelers, the system allows them to bypass lengthy customs lines and move through airports quickly after returning to the United States.

But recently, that sense of seamless travel faced an unexpected challenge.

Travelers Suddenly Faced a Growing Problem at U.S. Airports

Over the past few weeks, travelers returning to the United States began noticing something unusual. Airports that typically processed international arrivals efficiently were experiencing longer wait times.

Security and customs lines stretched longer than usual, with some travelers reporting delays that added hours to their travel day. At a time when spring travel is beginning to ramp up—especially for families heading to destinations like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort—those reports raised immediate concern.

The issue quickly caught the attention of travelers planning international trips, including those preparing for theme park vacations in Central Florida. Social media posts and travel forums began filling with questions about whether airport delays might worsen in the weeks ahead.

For Disney fans hoping for a smooth arrival in the United States before heading to the parks, uncertainty began to grow.

A Government Shutdown Sparked Concerns Across the Travel Industry

The underlying cause of the disruptions stemmed from a partial government shutdown that began on February 14. The shutdown occurred after lawmakers and the White House were unable to reach an agreement on legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security.

As part of the response to the funding gap, the Department of Homeland Security temporarily halted the Global Entry program on February 22.

Global Entry is designed for pre-approved, low-risk travelers who pay a fee to use expedited kiosks when entering the United States from abroad. The program is widely used by international travelers and frequent flyers, helping them avoid long customs lines.

During the shutdown, officials reassigned U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel who typically handle Global Entry processing to assist with screening all arriving travelers instead.

While the move helped maintain overall border operations, it also meant that the expedited entry system travelers rely on was suddenly unavailable.

The result? Longer processing times at some airports—just as travel demand began increasing.

A Sudden Reversal Restores Global Entry for International Travelers

In a surprising turn, the Department of Homeland Security announced Wednesday that the Global Entry program would officially restart.

The decision comes a little over two weeks after the service was suspended due to the partial government shutdown.

With the program reinstated, pre-approved travelers can once again use Global Entry kiosks at airports and ports of entry across the United States. For many international travelers, that means significantly shorter wait times when arriving in the country.

The change is particularly welcome news for travelers planning spring vacations, including those heading to Orlando for visits to Walt Disney World Resort and other Central Florida theme parks.

Officials had previously stated the program would remain suspended for as long as the shutdown continued. The restart suggests efforts are being made to stabilize travel operations even while political negotiations remain ongoing.

Social Media Reactions Show Relief From Travelers and Disney Fans

Travelers quickly reacted online as news of the program’s return began spreading.

On platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and travel forums such as Reddit, many users expressed relief that Global Entry was back in operation.

Frequent international travelers noted that the program can save hours when arriving at busy airports, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Disney fans planning international trips to Florida also joined the discussion, with some sharing concerns they had about how airport delays might affect tight vacation schedules.

For families who have planned trips months in advance, even a small improvement in travel efficiency can make a major difference.

What This Means for Future Disney World Travelers

For now, the restart of Global Entry offers reassurance to travelers planning upcoming vacations to Walt Disney World and other major U.S. destinations.

With expedited entry restored, international guests may once again move through customs more quickly when arriving in the United States—helping ensure travel plans stay on track.

However, the recent disruptions have also highlighted how political standoffs can ripple into the travel industry. Airport operations and border processing remain sensitive to staffing changes and government funding decisions.

For Disney World visitors planning trips from abroad, staying informed about travel programs and airport conditions may be more important than ever.

What do you think about the temporary halt of Global Entry and its impact on travel plans? Would delays at the airport change how you plan your Disney vacation? Let us know in the comments.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.
