Disney Fires Back: Beloved Attractions and Discounts Return in Surprise Move

The Preparations Commence Ahead of Epic Universe

For decades, Walt Disney World has reigned supreme as the ultimate vacation destination in Central Florida.

But with Universal Orlando Resort gearing up to open its highly anticipated Epic Universe in 2025, Disney appears to be pulling out all the stops to keep its throne.

Is Disney World Preparing for Epic Universe To Take the Lead?

From surprise perks to unprecedented operational changes, the Mouse House is making moves that have industry insiders wondering: is Disney in defense mode?

Just this week, Disney announced the return of its airport luggage transfer program, an initiative many guests have sorely missed. Simultaneously, a never-before-seen scheduling move will see all six Disney World parks—including both water parks—open at the same time.

And if that wasn’t enough, Disney is rolling out enticing discounts and vacation packages aimed at keeping families locked into their resorts rather than venturing toward Universal’s newest addition. But one of the most exciting announcements of all? EPCOT is officially bringing back a beloved underwater adventure.

A Long-Awaited Return to the Deep

For the first time in over six months, EPCOT’s DiveQuest experience at The Seas pavilion is making a comeback. Starting May 1, 2025, certified divers will once again have the chance to immerse themselves in a breathtaking underwater world, swimming alongside over 2,000 marine animals in the pavilion’s massive 5.7-million-gallon saltwater tank.

The temporary closure of DiveQuest, which took effect on October 19, 2024, left many wondering when—or if—the experience would resurface. Now, with its return officially on the books, Disney is bringing back a unique offering that sets EPCOT apart from any other theme park experience in the world.

Reservations for DiveQuest are now open, with available dates throughout May—except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Currently, the furthest bookable date is June 2, hinting that Disney may be testing the waters before expanding availability.

What Makes DiveQuest Special?

Unlike typical theme park attractions, DiveQuest offers an up-close and personal encounter with aquatic life that few can experience elsewhere. Participants will spend approximately two hours on this adventure, including 40 minutes of actual dive time in the tank. Divers will also be treated to a rare backstage tour, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of The Seas pavilion.

To take part in this experience, guests must meet certain requirements. All participants must be at least 10 years old and possess an Open Water SCUBA certification. Those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. While all diving equipment is provided on-site, guests are permitted to bring their own dive mask.

A Strategic Move in Disney World’s Battle for Visitors

The return of DiveQuest is just one of many strategic moves Disney has made in recent weeks. The company appears to be strengthening its offerings in anticipation of the looming competition from Universal’s Epic Universe. With new perks, deeper discounts, and even logistical improvements like the return of airport luggage transfers, Disney is making it clear that it intends to remain the top dog in Central Florida’s theme park industry.

Epic Universe is expected to be a game-changer for Universal Orlando, introducing brand-new lands, attractions, and an immersive experience unlike anything seen before. Disney’s latest moves suggest that they are not only aware of the impending shift in competition but are actively preparing for it.

As the battle between these two theme park giants heats up, one thing is certain: guests will reap the benefits of an ever-expanding array of experiences. Whether it’s diving into the depths of EPCOT’s DiveQuest or exploring the wonders of Epic Universe, theme park fans have a lot to look forward to in 2025 and beyond.

Since first stepping inside the Magic Kingdom at nine years old, I knew I was destined to be a theme Park enthusiast. Although I consider myself a theme Park junkie, I still have much to learn and discover about Disney. Universal Orlando Resort has my heart; being an Annual Passholder means visiting my favorite places on Earth when possible! When I’m not writing about Disney, Universal, or entertainment news, you’ll find me cruising on my motorcycle, hiking throughout my local metro parks, or spending quality time with my girlfriend, family, or friends.

  1. If Disney really wants to get back on Top they should 1) Treat their passholders better No discrimination i.e. No more reservations! 2) Stop the insane price increases. 3) GO BACK TO FASTPASSES. THE FREE PROGRAM! 4) Fix the DAS and stop discriminating against guests with mobility disabilities. They have already been sued in California for discriminating against a lady that could not stand for long periods. Insisting everyone rent wheelchairs is just plain ignorant.
