Disney World EPCOT Location Closes Unexpectedly to All Guests

Guests visiting Walt Disney World this week may have run into an unexpected disruption while exploring EPCOT, as one of the park’s most popular rides suddenly stopped operating for the entire day.

While significant corporate shifts continue to take shape at The Walt Disney Company, the changes behind the scenes haven’t slowed down the crowds arriving at Disney’s parks. Visitors are continuing to pack the resorts as leadership transitions unfold.

Recently, Josh D’Amaro moved into the role of Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company, while Thomas Mazloum stepped up to oversee Disney Experiences. Even with those leadership adjustments happening at the highest levels, the parks remain busy as ever.

At the same time, Walt Disney World is preparing for what could be one of its most transformative periods yet. The Magic Kingdom is slated to receive the biggest expansion in its history, introducing both Piston Peak National Park and the long-awaited Villains Land. Elsewhere across property, major changes are underway at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

These developments arrive during a transitional moment for Disney leadership. Bob Iger is preparing to step away from his current role, and D’Amaro’s move away from Disney Experiences raises questions about how the company’s momentum will carry forward—and how fans will respond as the next chapter begins.

Even with international travel fluctuating, domestic tourism continues to play a large role in keeping Disney’s theme park business strong. Fewer guests are visiting overall, but many are spending more during their trips, helping Disney Experiences maintain profitability.

Some longtime fans have expressed concern about whether that balance can continue if ticket prices and vacation costs keep climbing.

With spring break crowds arriving and summer travel right around the corner, Walt Disney World is preparing for another busy year. However, as every theme park fan knows, some unexpected hiccups can still happen during a visit.

According to a WDWMagic report, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure experienced significant unplanned downtime on March 11, remaining closed for the entire day with no reopening in sight as the park’s closing approached.

The attraction, located in EPCOT’s expanded France Pavilion, has remained a guest favorite since opening in 2021. But on this particular day, visitors hoping to join Remy’s kitchen adventure were left disappointed as technical issues appeared to halt the ride’s operation.

The trackless attraction allows guests to “shrink” to the size of a rat before racing through Gusteau’s restaurant alongside Remy. Unfortunately, reports indicated the ride stayed closed throughout the day, and Disney had not announced when it might reopen as evening approached.

Short-term ride interruptions aren’t unusual at major theme parks, especially for complex attractions. However, when a ride remains closed for the entire day, it can impact many visitors’ plans—particularly when the ride typically draws long lines.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure relies on a trackless ride system, which allows vehicles to move in multiple directions throughout the attraction rather than along a fixed track. This design helps create the feeling that guests are darting through kitchens and dining rooms, surrounded by oversized props and sets.

The ride is based on Pixar Animation Studios’ 2007 film Ratatouille and first debuted at Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris before being brought to Florida.

At EPCOT, the attraction begins in a charming Parisian courtyard tucked inside the France Pavilion. Guests eventually board rat-shaped ride vehicles that weave through large-scale kitchen environments and projection-based scenes while Chef Skinner attempts to capture them.

The experience blends physical environments with digital projection to create the illusion that riders have been shrunk down to Remy’s size. Interestingly, the attraction underwent a notable update only a few months ago. In November 2025, Disney temporarily closed Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure for a short refurbishment that replaced the original 3D projection system with upgraded 2D digital visuals.

Before the update, guests wore 3D glasses throughout the ride, which helped merge projected imagery with the attraction’s physical sets. When the ride reopened a few days later, the glasses were gone, replaced with brighter standard 2D projections.

Disney explained that the change would improve accessibility for guests who found the 3D visuals uncomfortable or difficult to view. Still, the update sparked discussion among theme park fans.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is the centerpiece of EPCOT’s France Pavilion expansion, which debuted alongside the attraction in 2021. The expanded area introduced new pathways, entertainment offerings, and dining locations—including the nearby restaurant La Crêperie de Paris.

Since opening, the ride has consistently ranked among EPCOT’s most popular attractions. During peak seasons, wait times often stretch beyond an hour. Because of that popularity, an unexpected closure can shift crowds elsewhere in the park, often sending more guests toward major rides such as Frozen Ever After and Soarin’ Around the World.

In many cases, technical issues like this are resolved after overnight maintenance teams inspect ride systems and reset software or hardware components. Still, the timing has drawn some attention given the attraction’s recent transition away from 3D projection technology—an update that significantly changed how the ride’s visual effects function.

For now, guests planning to visit EPCOT may want to check the attraction’s availability in the My Disney Experience app before heading toward the France Pavilion.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
