Gertie, an unofficial icon of the Walt Disney World Resort, is receiving some upgrades. Over the last few days, portions of her tail have been demolished. Disney’s Hollywood Studios features some of the most thrilling attractions at Walt Disney World. From fast-paced thrill rides like Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster to terrifying drop rides like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, adrenaline junkies have a lot to enjoy at Hollywood Studios.

For the uninitiated, Hollywood Studios features a giant mint-green dinosaur named Gertie who is associated with an ice cream shop in the park. Gertie acts not only as the mascot for the shop but the actual building itself. Gertie and the shop are located in the Echo Lake section of the park, which acts as the middle point between places like The Tower of Terror and Toy Story Land.

Over the years, Gertie has become a fan-favorite character and an unofficial Disney theme park icon. However, her tail is currently being rebuilt. Twitter/X user innoventionseast confirmed the work being done to Gertie in a new post, revealing that her tail had been demolished.

It’s unclear if Gertie suffered some kind of internal damage to her tail or if Disney proactively decided to rebuild the dinosaur’s tail entirely.

A type of green scrim can be seen surrounding the tip of her tail.

Aside from iconic characters, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also home to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, perhaps Walt Disney Imagineering’s most impressive theme park project to date. Galaxy’s Edge is a Star Wars fan’s dream come true, offering them the chance to become a Jedi or Sith and live out their own Star Wars adventure.

The land is home to two state-of-the-art attractions, as well as Star Wars-themed restaurants and shops.

Guests can also embark on a colorful, cartoon-inspired adventure with Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. This trackless dark ride offers guests an immersive and utterly captivating experience that they won’t forget as they follow Mickey and Minnie along on a “runaway railway.”
