Disney World Christmas Party “Canceled,” Boycotted by Guests

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is just a few months away, but thousands of Walt Disney World Resort guests aren’t looking forward to the usually-popular special event.

Walt Disney World Resort spreads holiday cheer via decorations, food items, merchandise, and entertainment throughout Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney Springs. However, Magic Kingdom Park was once the only Central Florida Disney park with a late-night, separately ticketed Christmas event.

In 2023, Disney’s Hollywood Studios held the inaugural Disney Jollywood Nights, a glamorously festive after-hours celebration. Though there were some hiccups, Walt Disney World Resort modified the event and announced that it would return in late 2024.

Tickets went on sale two weeks ago for Disney Jollywood Nights and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. However, none of the special events have sold out.

Some Disney Resort guests might be focused on Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but price increases undoubtedly play a role. The Walt Disney World Christmas party costs up to $20 more per adult guest.

In 2023, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party tickets ranged from $159 to $199 per adult. This year, they cost between $169 and $219.

Canceled celebrations are also likely a factor in guests’ decisions to skip Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. In early July, Walt Disney World Resort confirmed that the Dream Lights wouldn’t return to Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.

The glistening fairy lights delighted thousands of Walt Disney World Resort guests and became synonymous with Christmastime at Magic Kingdom Park. 2024 marks the fourth year in a row–since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic–that Walt Disney Imagineers won’t install thousands of bulbs on Cinderella Castle.

Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party still includes Mickey’s Once Upon A Christmastime Parade, Minnie’s Wonderful Christmastime Fireworks, character meet-and-greets, and other exclusive entertainment offerings. However, daytime Disney Park guests can see some of these performances starting on Christmas Eve/Christmas Day through New Year’s Eve.

Disneyland Resort experienced a similar lack of demand with its annual Halloween event, Oogie Boogie Bash. In previous years, tickets sold out within hours–this year, it took two weeks.

Still, some guests are excited about their holiday Walt Disney World Resort vacations. From @OmnipotentMeesh on X (formerly Twitter):
