Disney World Changes Closure of Magic Kingdom Location

Magic Kingdom guests received an unexpected surprise on Friday as one of the park’s most popular character destinations quietly welcomed visitors back earlier than Disney had announced.

After remaining closed for the first half of 2026, Pete’s Silly Sideshow in Storybook Circus has officially reopened following an extensive six-month refurbishment. While Disney previously listed Saturday, June 27, as the return date, guests visiting Magic Kingdom on June 26 discovered the indoor character location was already operating, per WDWMagic.

The reopening restores one of Fantasyland’s signature meet-and-greet experiences, where Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, and Goofy appear in their exclusive circus-themed costumes.

During the refurbishment, Disney continued offering character encounters by relocating the four favorites to temporary outdoor locations nearby in Storybook Circus, allowing guests to continue meeting them while work progressed on the building.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow may not be a ride, but it has consistently ranked among the busiest character experiences in Magic Kingdom since debuting as part of the Storybook Circus expansion.

The refurbishment centered largely on the attraction’s exterior. Years of Florida sun and rain had left the circus tent looking worn, prompting Disney to replace the aging tent roof earlier this year. In recent weeks, construction walls, scaffolding, and protective scrim gradually disappeared as finishing work wrapped up, while decorative entrance banners were also reinstalled.

One queue allows guests to meet Minnie Mouse as Minnie Magnifique alongside Daisy Duck as Madame Daisy Fortuna. The second features Goofy as The Great Goofini and Donald Duck as The Astounding Donaldo. Their circus costumes continue to be exclusive to Pete’s Silly Sideshow, making the location one of the more unique character offerings at Walt Disney World.

Although Pete’s Silly Sideshow has reopened, nearby construction continues. Big Top Souvenirs remains unavailable, and Disney has not confirmed when the merchandise location will welcome guests again.

Disney’s official operating calendar listed June 27 as the attraction’s reopening date, making Friday’s surprise return an unexpected bonus for guests already inside Magic Kingdom.

Visitors were once again able to enjoy the indoor, air-conditioned queues instead of waiting outside in Central Florida’s summer temperatures. Character greeting hours are expected to run daily from 10:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m., consistent with Disney‘s previously released schedule.

The reopening also restores one of Magic Kingdom’s highest-capacity character locations, reducing pressure on other meet-and-greet opportunities throughout Fantasyland after several months of temporary outdoor appearances.

Pete’s Silly Sideshow’s return marks another completed refurbishment at Magic Kingdom as Walt Disney World continues updating existing experiences while maintaining day-to-day operations across the resort. For guests hoping to meet some of Disney’s most recognizable characters, the experience is once again available—and it arrived a day earlier than many visitors expected.

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
