Disney World Abruptly Axes 51-Year-Old Hoop-Dee-Doo Show
Walt Disney World Resort guests were left disappointed after the resort abruptly axed its Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue show last night.
First performed in 1974, Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is one of Disney World’s best-kept secrets.
Staged multiple times per day (with the exception of Mondays and Tuesdays right now) in the Pioneer Hall at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, the two-hour wild west dinner show combines dancing, singing, and comedy with all-you-can-eat classic American fare. Think rousing musical numbers, interactive washboard performances, and dishes such as fried chicken (which you can actually make for yourself at home), cornbread, macaroni and cheese, and strawberry shortcake, served family-style.
Iconic though the show may be, it was originally intended as a limited summer entertainment offering. Today, it’s one of the country’s longest-running musicals. Tickets range from $70 to $78, depending on where you sit, and it’s thought that well over 12 million guests have watched the show since its inception.
Last night, however, some guests lost their opportunity to experience Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue for themselves.
Disney Cancels Last Night’s Performance of 51-Year-Old Show
The show – which is typically performed at 4 p.m., 6.15 p.m., and 8.30 p.m. – axed its final performance of the day without warning.
“We checked in for the show around 8.15 with no indication the show was going to be cancelled,” explained one guest on Reddit. “We went to line up at 8.30 and then found out the show wasn’t happening. Super disappointed as we wouldn’t have traveled to Fort Wilderness for the show if this was the case.”
Disney claimed that the cancellation was due to “technical difficulties.”
While some guests believed the show was cancelled for other reasons, one guest explained that technical difficulties aren’t out of the question for Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. “Audio being wonky, instruments crapping out, or a key light breaking,” they said. “Technical issues isn’t an unlikely reason and if anything, the fact that they announced it so late makes me think it probably was just some sort of unfortunate issue with a technical component.”
There’s no confirmation whether today’s performances are going ahead as planned.
Disruptions at Disney World
While Disney maintains relatively flawless operational procedures, things can – and do – go wrong. Unexpected cancellations like last night’s Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue aren’t totally irregular.
This week saw another big technical hiccup as Disney’s dining reservations system crashed when guests rushed to book tables at The Beak and Barrel – Magic Kingdom Park’s upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean-themed bar – for when it opens on August 29.
Disney has since delayed the opening of reservations to August 18, claiming on its website: “Arrgh! Too many pirates tried to pillage at The Beak and Barrel. Thank you for yer patience. Come back for the treasure ye seek when reservations set sail the week of August 18, 2025.”
Back in July, Disney also temporarily closed off entire sections of Disney’s Hollywood Studios – impacting popular attacks such as Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular, and Star Tours – due to undisclosed unforeseen circumstances. By mid-morning, crews were spotted pressure washing near the Indiana Jones theater and Oasis Canteen, hinting that a cleanup may have prompted the sudden closure.
Have you ever seen Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue?
We went to Hoop Dee Doo during our last visit on July 4th. We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday, and having a great time until we found hair — first in our last corn bread and then in the strawberry shortcake. My husband mentioned it to our waiter, who apologized and took it away and then came back to say a manager was coming to talk to us. No one ever came! Bad management. But, the show itself was good just wish it was a little longer for the price.
