Disney Announces Massive Benefit to Guests, But There’s a Catch

The summer of 2025 marks a milestone for Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, as Disneyland Park celebrates 70 years since its historic debut on July 17, 1955. Walt Disney’s dream of a place where families could enjoy stories together has grown into a vacation destination that now includes two theme parks, three resort hotels, and a lively shopping and dining district.

Guests visiting during this special anniversary season are invited to rediscover favorites and enjoy brand-new offerings across both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Entertainment includes the return of Paint the Night, lighting up Main Street, U.S.A., the nighttime spectacular Wondrous Journeys over Sleeping Beauty Castle, and a new live show titled Walt Disney—A Magical Life, paying tribute to the man behind it all.

Over at Disney California Adventure Park, the celebration extends with two new additions. Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration! brings beloved Pixar characters to life in a daytime street party, while the new nighttime spectacular World of Color—Happiness! transforms Paradise Bay with fountains, music, and projections.

The festivities officially began on May 16, and will continue through the summer, offering a mix of nostalgia and fresh experiences for guests of all ages.

As part of the anniversary, Disneyland has introduced a limited-time ticket offer for Anaheim residents. From August 4 through September 25, eligible locals can purchase a $70 one-day, one-park ticket, reflecting the number of years the park has been welcoming guests. The offer is only available by calling (844) 695-1240 and cannot be redeemed at ticket booths. ZIP codes eligible include 92801 through 92809, 92812, 92814 through 92817, 92825, 92850, and 92899. Residents may purchase up to eight tickets per day, with buyers required to be at least 18 years old.

New Perk for Select Guests

Meanwhile, Magic Key holders are also seeing benefits this season. From August 13 through August 18, holders can enjoy 50% off the Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a system that allows guests to reserve return times for select attractions in advance. Regular prices begin at $32, depending on the date, so the discount presents a valuable perk for those visiting in August.

Magic Key, Disneyland’s reimagined annual pass program, continues to offer four tiers—Inspire, Believe, Enchant, and Imagine—each with a unique blend of benefits, blackout calendars, and reservation limits. While top-tier options offer more flexibility, entry still requires a reservation regardless of pass level.

As of August 2025, Magic Key sales have been paused indefinitely. The last window for new purchases closed on July 31, though current holders may continue to renew. Interested guests can still sign up for updates via the official Magic Key page. The pause is thought to be part of Disneyland’s ongoing strategy to manage attendance between local visitors and out-of-town guests.

Disneyland’s leadership has also reflected on the impact of this anniversary. In an interview with Disney Parks Blog, Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shared his thoughts.

“This anniversary is more than a milestone—it’s a chance to reflect on Walt’s original dream and how far it’s come,” he said. “What started as one park has grown into destinations around the world, all built on his belief that Disney could create incredible worlds like no one else.”

Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, echoed those sentiments: “I’ve often said that one of the greatest attributes of Disney is the mere fact that people expect so much from us. We welcome that challenge, because it motivates us and energizes us to always be bold in everything that we do, and to exceed our guests’ highest expectations.”

As both Disneyland and Walt Disney World continue planning for future experiences and improvements, the 70th anniversary serves as a reminder of how one man’s vision became a worldwide legacy. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong fan, this summer brings a chance to celebrate the past, present, and future of Disneyland.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
