Disney Triggers Immediate Exit Procedure on Mickey Mouses Home for All Theme Park Visitors

Guests visiting Disneyland on Friday, May 2, were surprised to find Mickey’s Toontown entirely evacuated in the middle of the afternoon, following a reported power failure that affected multiple systems across the land. The closure affected everything from headline attractions like Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway to dining and merchandise locations throughout the whimsical cartoon district.

Attractions Go Dark, Guests Escorted Out

According to reports from inside the park, both Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin went down unexpectedly shortly after midday. Cast Members were seen calmly escorting guests out of both queue areas and, within minutes, began clearing the entire land.

The issue was later confirmed to be power-related. While Disneyland has not released an official statement, Cast Members in the area confirmed it was an electrical failure affecting the safety systems required to keep the land operational.

Theme Park IQ shared, “Cast Members are currently leading guests away from Toon Town at Disneyland letting them know that all attractions are currently closed.

Unsure what happened and nobody will tell me!”

They then confirmed it was a power outage.

Why the Entire Land Closed

Mickey’s Toontown functions as a highly themed, self-contained section of Disneyland Park, and nearly every aspect of the land is interconnected through the park’s power grid. When a significant outage occurs, especially one that disables both the rides and critical safety infrastructure, Disneyland’s operational procedures call for a full evacuation out of an abundance of caution.

That meant the closure wasn’t limited to the attractions. Guests looking to grab a bite at Café Daisy or browse through EngineEar Souvenirs at the exit of Runaway Railway were also out of luck. The entire land was made inaccessible while teams worked to resolve the issue.

Character experiences were similarly halted. Mickey and Minnie, who typically meet guests outside their respective homes, were nowhere to be found during the closure, adding to the sudden shift in guest flow in the surrounding Fantasyland and Tomorrowland areas.

Return to Normalcy

By late afternoon, power had been restored and Toontown gradually reopened to the public. Guests were allowed back into the land, and Cast Members resumed normal operations across attractions, food and beverage locations, and retail.

Runaway Railway and Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin were both back online before sunset, though some Mobile Order windows for Café Daisy were briefly paused during the transition back to service.

A Reminder of Operational Complexity

While outages of this nature are uncommon, they serve as a reminder of just how technically intricate modern theme parks are—especially when it comes to themed lands packed with interdependent systems. With Toontown recently undergoing a major refurbishment and expansion in 2023, including the addition of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, the area has quickly become a must-do for families and Disney fans alike.

Given its popularity and concentration of guest services, even a brief closure can affect thousands of visitors’ itineraries, especially during busy spring weekends.

At this time, no additional outages or safety concerns have been reported, and Toontown continues to operate normally.
