Found at Woody’s Lunchbox in Toy Story Land, these Totchos are a delicious savory snack. Layers of tater tots, chili, cheese, and toppings!
I love tater tots and I love nachos, so when I heard of a dish combining the two, I was smitten. Totchos are the best of both worlds, a crispy, crunchy potato base loaded high with cheese AND sour cream? Am I dreaming? The best part is adding my favorite toppings. I love avocado, fresh cilantro, chopped red onion, and salsa! Totchos make a great snack, but if you make a whole pan of them, it’s the perfect appetizer for friends and family. Believe me, they won’t be able to get enough. Lay out a nachos toppings bar and you have yourself a party!
What are Totchos?
Totchos are like nachos, except you replace the tortilla chips with tater tots. The earliest written history of this food genius is 2006 when Jim Parker, Portland, Oregon, made them for his bar, and the idea took off from there. Like nachos, Totchos rely heavily on toppings. Anything you’d put on a nacho would go on Totchos: tomatoes, guacamole, salsa, corn, red onion, CHEESE, black olives, pulled pork, chicken, ground beef., black beans, bacon, jalapenos, pico de gallo, squeeze of lime, anything you can layer on tater tots and fork into your mouth is golden! Totchos have gained huge popularity in Disney World, being a delicious and filling food you can eat on the go.
Where to Find Totchos at Disney World
When you’re at Disney World, you can find their Totchos at Woody’s Lunch Box in Toy Story Land. This is in Hollywood Studios. Woody’s Lunch Box is a walk up window restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a full menu of some great items!
How to Make Totchos
- Begin by putting the tater tots on a baking sheet. Cook tater tots according to package directions (for extra crispy tater tots, keep baking past the recommended time until they are deep golden brown and crispy).
- While tater tots are cooking, prepare the rest of the ingredients and any other toppings you’d like. Heat up the chili and the queso cheese and slice the green onions.
- When you take the tater tots out of the oven, divide them and the chili into six bowls. Top each with a few tablespoons of queso cheese.
- Top each bowl with shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and green onions.
Variations
The world is your Totcho. Anything you would layer on a tortilla chip is fair game to place on these crispy tater tots. Some ideas would be pico de gallo, and this includes any type of salsa or even just raw diced tomato. This would add freshness and flavor. Speaking of produce, you could add avocado or guacamole. It would add a richness and creaminess. Other produce, sliced red onion. The flavor of the raw onion is delicious, especially when you cut it really thin. Aside from chili, you can add any meat you’d like. This includes pulled pork, plain ground beef, diced or ground chicken, and ground turkey. Finally, add a squeeze of lime for a zing and a jolt of freshness.
Recipe Tip
When I bake the tater tots for Totchos, I like to cook them a little longer than the package says. I like to get them a nice golden brown and very crispy. This way, when I add the chili they don’t get soggy.
