Disney Reboots Lightning Lane Offering at Disney World Park, Guests Should Take Note

Test Track presented by General Motors has roared back to life at EPCOT, officially reopening to all guests on July 22, 2025, in a reimagined form. But its return brings more than high-speed action—it also signals a notable shift in EPCOT’s guest experience.

While the attraction still delivers the adrenaline rush fans expect, it now weaves in a powerful tribute to EPCOT history. The redesign channels the spirit of World of Motion, the original attraction that once stood on this ground. The updated experience strikes a balance between future-focused design and timeless storytelling—an homage that resonates with those who’ve been visiting EPCOT for decades.

Annual Passholders were the first to step into the new experience, thanks to a series of preview dates on July 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19. Early access was managed through the My Disney Experience app with a virtual queue available at 7:00 a.m. (with a park reservation) and 1:00 p.m. (without). On opening day of previews, the first queue filled within three seconds—a clear sign of pent-up excitement.

As the preview window continued, a change rolled out. By July 18, cast members began offering access without the virtual queue, verifying Passholder credentials directly at the entrance. This small adjustment opened the doors for even more guests to enjoy the ride during its final preview days.

Then, a soft opening quietly began. Starting July 20, Test Track began operating via standby queue for all guests, with access continuing through July 21, paving the way for the official public debut.

There’s another key development: Test Track now joins Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure as a top-tier selection in the Lightning Lane Multi Pass system. Guests can choose one of these top-tier experiences, plus two more from a tier that includes attractions like Journey into Imagination with Figment, Mission: SPACE, Soarin’ Around the World, Spaceship Earth, and others.

This update comes as part of Disney’s ongoing evolution of the Lightning Lane system, first introduced on July 24, 2024, when Genie+ was revamped. With Test Track closed since June 17, it hadn’t been part of the Lightning Lane mix until now.

Across Walt Disney World, new experiences continue to unfold. Just days before Test Track returned, the brand-new nighttime parade Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away premiered at Magic Kingdom Park on July 20. Following its two-day preview period, the procession now runs nightly at 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.

Whether you’re discovering EPCOT for the first time or you’ve been watching it evolve for years, the new Test Track is a celebration of the past with eyes on the road ahead.

He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
