Tomorrowland is no stranger to change, but the latest updates at Magic Kingdom feel different. They feel bigger, bolder—and like they’re building toward something truly futuristic.
It all started with the launch of TRON Lightcycle / Run back in April 2023. That sleek, neon-filled coaster turned heads and instantly raised the bar for what we expect in this part of the park. Since then, things haven’t slowed down. In fact, they’ve only ramped up.
The land itself is finally starting to align with the vision of the future Walt Disney dreamed about—where science fiction, sleek tech, and nostalgia come together.
Astro Orbiter Is Rising Again
One of the most iconic sights in Tomorrowland—the towering centerpiece of Astro Orbiter—is back. The attraction’s massive central post has been fully reinstalled, complete with shimmering silver spires and a golden orb that sparkles in the Florida sun.
After months of refurbishment that left the ride looking like a skeleton, it’s slowly coming back to life. While the rockets aren’t flying just yet, the infrastructure is nearly complete, and Disney’s reportedly getting closer to early testing. The ride is still listed as closed through at least July 18, but all signs point to a summer return.
Next Up: Buzz Lightyear’s Big Glow-Up
Once Astro Orbiter is ready for liftoff again, Disney is turning its attention to another Tomorrowland staple—Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. This ride has been delighting guests since the late ’90s, but it’s finally getting a serious upgrade starting in August.
New scenes, upgraded ride vehicles, and improved blasters are all part of the overhaul. Imagineers are even introducing a brand-new character named “Buddy,” a friendly support bot who helps guests prep for battle with Zurg. Expect better scoring, more vibrant effects, and targets that light up and react when hit.
Basically, it’s shaping up to be the intergalactic shooter we always wanted.
What’s Next for Tomorrowland?
TRON redefined Tomorrowland. Astro Orbiter is getting its gleam back. Buzz Lightyear’s heading to space camp for a full-on makeover. It’s clear Disney is slowly giving this land the love it deserves—and guests are here for it.
Don’t be surprised if more updates are announced soon. Tomorrowland’s transformation is just heating up.
