Disney Parks Officially Putting Fireworks on Multi-Month Hiatus

At Disney parks around the world, fireworks are more than a backdrop — they’re a familiar end to the day. Families gather near castles, waterfronts, or themed plazas to watch the skies light up in time with music. For many visitors, the nighttime show is as much a tradition as any ride or parade.

Disney has spent years pushing the limits of what a nighttime spectacular can be. Projections, fountains, and drones have transformed shows into multimedia experiences (to the point that some fear Disney may axe fireworks altogether). Disneyland Paris has arguably leaned into that innovation the most with the launch of Disney Tales of Magic earlier this year, layering effects into a seamless blend of storytelling and technology. Yet Tokyo Disney Resort remains one of the few outliers, still offering a simpler take on the spectacle.

In Japan, the nightly offering has been Sky Full of Colors — a stripped-down fireworks show that prioritizes pyrotechnics over projections. Guests can view it from both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea, making it one of the most accessible experiences in the resort. Unlike other Disney parks, however, Tokyo has a habit of putting its fireworks on hold every summer.

Sky Full of Colors on Hold

The pause is not unusual. Typically, the Sky Full of Colors fireworks disappear from the entertainment schedule in early July, returning in mid-September.

Last year, the fireworks came back on September 18 after a two-month absence. But in 2025, the break has stretched longer. Tokyo Disney Resort confirmed that Sky Full of Colors will remain on hiatus through October.

While the resort (which is owned by The Oriental Land Company, not Disney) has not publicly explained the timing, fireworks are notoriously sensitive to wind and humidity, both of which are common during Japanese summers. By pausing the show, the resort avoids last-minute cancellations that can frustrate visitors.

That doesn’t mean guests are left without an evening finale. Instead of restoring Sky Full of Colors, Tokyo Disney Resort is bringing back Night High Halloween, which runs from September 17 through October 31.

A Seasonal Replacement

Night High Halloween follows the same stripped-back formula: a brief, five-minute display of fireworks paired with music.

Free of projections, it can be enjoyed from multiple vantage points. For guests planning trips during the Halloween season, the switch keeps fireworks visible despite the extended break for Sky Full of Colors.

The Halloween show is a temporary bridge before Tokyo Disney Resort pivots to its holiday offerings. This ushers in the debut of a brand-new Christmas parade, while Starbright Christmas will make its seasonal return beginning November 11, 2025, keeping fireworks on the nightly lineup into the winter. Sky Full of Colors is expected to reappear once the seasonal events conclude.

As in past years, there will not be specific New Year’s Eve fireworks to mark the transition to 2026.

Unlike its American counterparts, Tokyo Disneyland also operates a separate, dedicated projection-heavy nighttime spectacular. Reach for the Stars uses pyrotechnics, projections, and lighting to tell character-driven stories of chasing dreams. Despite its ambition, some regular parkgoers have labeled the show underwhelming.

It remains on the schedule through Halloween and Christmas, but will take a one-day hiatus on September 26.

For Tokyo Disney Resort, fireworks remain both a tradition and a seasonal wildcard — suspended during the humid summers, retooled for Halloween, and reshaped for Christmas. The result is a rhythm that sets the Japanese resort apart from its global siblings, blending simplicity with seasonal flair.
