Two Disney Parks Enforce Mandatory Passport Law, New Guests Warned
While there have been long-time reports that carrying your passport is mandatory at one Disney resort, guests have recently learned that it is very much enforced by cast members.
Disney parks around the world share a core identity, offering beloved attractions, iconic castles, and a dedication to immersive storytelling, yet each location reflects its unique setting through distinct variations. Local laws, cultural preferences, and government regulations influence everything from food options to operational details.
That’s the case at Disneyland Paris, where – as Inside the Magic reported in 2024 – EU laws stipulate that guests must carry their passports when visiting its two parks.
ID Rules at Two Disney Parks
While there’s every chance that you may not be asked to produce your passport while at Disneyland Park or Walt Disney Studios Park, it’s not worth the risk of being caught without it on your person. Guests from within the EU have the option of also producing their national identity card, but for those based beyond its borders – including the UK – only a passport is an acceptable form of ID.
Guests have also claimed that there is very much a chance of being asked to show your passport in the parks. One Reddit user who visited the parks from the U.S. recently revealed that they were asked for their ID twice during their visit.
“We’re US citizens..and I had read on here the last couple weeks about needing a passport,” they wrote. “We finally went yesterday and I decided to bring ours just in case..and we ended up showing it twice. 1-We were asked for my daughters’ identification to get her face painted (she just turned 4 but looks younger). 2-Getting her bday pin at city hall.”
When Could I Be Asked For ID?
Although many users mentioned they’ve never been asked for ID (and we personally have never been asked), this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of guests being required to show identification at Disneyland Paris and warning others of the possibility.
Guests have also claimed to have been asked to show ID while making a purchase with a credit card, while a TikTok went viral last year advising guests to bring their passports into the parks.
Similarly, Shanghai Disneyland – the newest of the 12 Disney theme parks worldwide – also requires international guests to carry passports on their person. This ID must match the name supplied when purchasing their ticket, with the China theme park introducing these new guidelines in December 2024 to restrict the resort’s rampant ticket scalping.
