The Buffy the Vampire Slayer franchise is in the midst of a major expansion. With a highly anticipated revival series in the works at Hulu, Buffy is stepping into a brand-new era, and it has now been confirmed that the franchise is branching out in more ways than one.
It has been reported that Disney will be launching a new wave of Buffy and Angel comics series under Dynamite Publishing. This move from BOOM! Studios to Dynamite suggests that the Buffyverse is being primed for something bigger: an interconnected franchise.
The New Buffyverse Is Already Expanding
The Buffy revival series and the comics could be just the beginning, and the possibility of Buffy getting a second shot at becoming a mainstream multi-media franchise is starting to look more likely.
If the revival proves successful, this expanded universe could take the form of films, more TV shows, or even animated content, similar to the way Star Wars and Marvel (which also reside under Disney) have built a vast interconnected world across multiple platforms over the years.
There might even be potential for video games and theme park attractions down the line. For now, though, longtime fans can look forward to sinking their teeth into more adventures from the world of Sunnydale, both on screen and off.

It’s unclear whether the Buffy comics will focus on Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Slayer or the new one, who will be played by Skeleton Crew‘s Ryan Kiera Armstrong in the revival.
However, Gellar will also reprise her role as Buffy in the new series, while serving as an EP alongside Chloé Zhao (Nomadland), who’s attached to direct the pilot.
More New Buffy Cast Members
Variety has now reported that five new actors have been added to the cast in addition to Armstrong and Gellar. There’s Faly Rakotohavana (Secret Society of Second Born Royals), Ava Jean (Law & Order: SVU), Sarah Bock (Severance), Daniel di Tomasso (Witches of East End), and Jack Cutmore-Scott (Oppenheimer).
There’s no release date for the Buffy revival or the new comic books.
