Disney Makes Additional Changes to Rope Drop Procedure at Magic Kingdom
Fall has brought a series of updates to Walt Disney World Resort, giving guests new ways to enjoy the parks—especially at Magic Kingdom. With the return of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party this season, Disney has adjusted opening times and added more early-morning options for guests looking to make the most of their day.
This year’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party kicked off on August 15, and every date has now sold out, with Halloween night once again being the first to go. During these separately ticketed events, Magic Kingdom transforms into a Halloween celebration beginning at 7 p.m., filled with costumed characters, themed entertainment, and festive décor. Party guests can enter as early as 4 p.m.—a perk that continues despite higher ticket prices.
To help guests experience more before the evening festivities, Disney expanded morning hours on select party dates. Beginning in mid-August, Magic Kingdom opened at 8:00 a.m., with Early Theme Park Entry for resort guests at 7:30 a.m. The schedule first appeared on August 15, then extended to August 17, 19, and 22. The early openings allowed day guests additional time to enjoy attractions before the park began its nighttime transformation.
Looking ahead, these early openings continue into October. Magic Kingdom will open at 8:00 a.m. on October 26 and October 31, with Early Entry at 7:30 a.m. Guests visiting during these days can take advantage of quieter mornings in areas like Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, making it an ideal time to explore with lighter crowds.
Beyond Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is also adjusting its schedule. On November 1, the park will open at 8:30 a.m., with Early Entry beginning at 8:00 a.m., giving resort guests extra time to experience attractions such as Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and Slinky Dog Dash.
Hollywood Studios, like Magic Kingdom, is currently under construction as the former Grand Avenue area is transformed into the future Monsters, Inc. Land.
These early openings are designed to give guests more flexibility and to better balance crowd flow, especially during seasonal events. They also provide opportunities for those who prefer the cooler morning hours to enjoy the parks before the day gets busier.
Of course, the heart of Disney’s fall festivities remains Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Guests can enjoy returning favorites like the Boo-To-You Halloween Parade, where the Headless Horseman leads a procession of Disney Villains and spirited characters down Main Street, U.S.A.
At Cinderella Castle, the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular once again brings the Sanderson Sisters center stage as they join other Disney villains for a lively mix of song, dance, and spell-casting fun. The night concludes with Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular, a fireworks and projection show hosted by Jack Skellington.
While ticket prices for the event continue to rise, the earlier opening hours may offer added value for those visiting on party days. Many guests find that the combination of extra park time and a relaxed daytime atmosphere makes for a well-paced and enjoyable experience.
