Disney Just Got Cuter This Spring With These New Baby Animal Arrivals
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge is having a baby animal season that most Walt Disney World visitors are completely unaware of, and that is genuinely unfortunate because what is happening on those savannas right now is worth going out of your way to see.
Three red river hog piglets have been born backstage at the lodge, joining a savanna that is already celebrating the arrival of an Ankole cattle calf born earlier this year, the first of its kind at Walt Disney World in over two decades. Two separate baby animal arrivals in the same spring season at a resort that already offers one of the most distinctive wildlife viewing experiences in all of Florida.
The Red River Hog Piglets New at Disney
Three red river hog piglets were recently born backstage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and are currently bonding with their mother behind the scenes. Red river hogs are native to West and Central Africa and are immediately recognizable for their striking reddish coats, dramatic facial markings, and distinctive tufted ears. The piglets are not yet visible to guests, but the plan is for them to eventually join the rest of the red river hog group on the savanna once the animal care team determines they are ready for the transition.
Disney has welcomed red river hog piglets in previous years as part of its ongoing animal care and conservation program. This latest arrival continues that record and adds another reason to keep an eye on the savanna during upcoming visits.
The Ankole Cattle Calf
Earlier in March 2026, an Ankole cattle calf was born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, marking the first Ankole cattle birth at Walt Disney World in over 20 years. The female calf and her mother are healthy and are bonding behind the scenes before appearing on the savanna for guests.
Ankole cattle are visually striking animals characterized by their massive, curved horns that can span several feet. Their presence on the savanna contributes to the authentic African atmosphere that sets Animal Kingdom Lodge apart from every other hotel in the Walt Disney World portfolio, and the arrival of a new calf adds a generational dimension to that experience.
How to See Them at Disney
The animals at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge live at the resort rather than at the Animal Kingdom theme park. To see the savanna, guests need to visit the lodge itself, and there are multiple ways to do that without being a registered resort guest.
A complimentary bus from Disney Springs provides free transportation directly to Animal Kingdom Lodge with no reservation required. Making a dining reservation at Jiko, Boma, or Sanaa is another option that pairs savanna access with some of the best food at Walt Disney World. Sanaa in particular offers direct savanna views from the dining room, which means wildlife watching and dinner happen at the same time.
Savanna-viewing areas at both Jambo House and Kidani Village are accessible to all guests via floor-to-ceiling windows and outdoor viewing platforms. Guests planning visits in 2026 should note that ongoing refurbishment work at both buildings may result in some daytime construction activity, though the wildlife will continue its normal routines throughout.
The piglets are coming. The calf is on the way to the savanna. Most Disney guests have no idea any of this is happening right now.
