Teenagers Sent to Disney Jail Over “Harassing Mickey Mouse”
A Disneyland Resort guest recently shared her story of ending up in “Disney Jail” because cast members claimed her friend group “harassed Mickey Mouse.” The woman, now an adult, said the incident occurred during her Grad Nite at the Southern California Disney park.
There have long been rumors and internet legends about “jails” at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. While the Disney parks don’t have literal jails per se, law enforcement is stationed on property, and the parks do have security offices that guests can end up in for breaking the rules.
TikTok user @riley.jolley recently recounted the time she and a group of friends ended up in “Disney Jail” during their Grad Nite event. The Disneyland Resort guest’s video amassed over 130,00 views and nearly 25,000 likes.
The guest explained that her friend group spotted Mickey Mouse while walking through the park. They wanted to take a photo with him, but collectively decided that the line was too long. Instead, they decided to snap a quick picture and video as they walked by Mickey–not interrupting anyone else’s meet-and-greet, but getting some kind of photo with the character without waiting in a lengthy queue.
“We didn’t even stop walking,” the TikToker recalled. “…We didn’t get close to him because the line was way too long and we didn’t want to wait.”
Moments later, Disney cast members approached the teenagers and asked if they had tried to take a picture with Mickey Mouse. The group honestly answered yes, but they were shocked when the Disneyland Resort employees explained that they were being apprehended for “harassing Mickey Mouse.”
“I was like, ‘Mickey Mouse as in…the fictional character or the person dressed in the costume?’” the guest continued. “Because, what do you mean we just harassed Mickey Mouse? That doesn’t make any sense.”
The group tried to show Disney cast members the videos they took with Mickey Mouse in the background. But they insisted on taking the group to “Disney Jail.”
“You can see, no one laid a hand on Mickey Mouse, no one laid a hand on the person dressed in the Mickey Mouse costume,” the TikToker remembered saying. “Your claims do not hold up.”
The teens expected “Mickey Jail” to be as colorful and themed as the Disney parks, but that wasn’t the case.
“It was gray,” the Disney Park guest recalled. “It was obviously the saddest part about Disneyland.”
The TikToker said Disneyland Resort security called the Anaheim Police Department after the teens refused to admit to harassing Mickey Mouse.
“We were like, ‘You can see the video. Nothing happened,’” she explained. “We were not backing down. We didn’t even touch Mickey.”
The Anaheim Police Department didn’t press charges or arrest the Grad Nite attendees.
“They called Anaheim PD down, and when Anaheim got down here, they filled them in on what was happening, and Anaheim PD pretty much said, ‘This is a huge f**king waste of our time and we have so much to deal with,’ and they let us go,” the TikToker said. “But we were late back to the buses for Grad Nite, and we got in a lot of trouble.”
The group didn’t face any further consequences from Disneyland Resort. Given that her video was recorded inside Disney California Adventure Park, it’s clear that she wasn’t permanently banned from the Southern California Disney parks.
Still, some TikTok commenters said the group should’ve taken action against Disneyland Resort for wrongfully accusing them of harassment.
“I’m so surprised this is not a lawsuit because they pretty much wasted your time because you didn’t harass Mickey Mouse,” @nicklifestyle0 said. “Even worse, they wasted Anaheim police’s time plus you got in tons of trouble with the school because of it.”
“I would sue,” @izzybaeq replied.
