For a lot of Disney World fans, Extended Evening Hours feels like one of the biggest perks you can unlock.
Extra time in the parks after closing? That sounds like a strategy-changing advantage.

But based on a recent Reddit thread that’s been picking up traction, EPCOT might not be the place where that perk shines the most.
Extended hours Epcot – waste of time

The conversation started when a guest shared their experience after attending Extended Evening Hours while staying at a Deluxe resort. Going into the night, they expected to take advantage of shorter lines and a quieter park.
Instead, they ran into something very different.
Even well into the extended hours window, wait times for major attractions were still high. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind sat around an hour, while Test Track pushed even higher. And earlier in the evening—before extended hours even started—those waits had already climbed significantly.

That’s where the problem begins.
As the guest explained, a large number of people entered ride queues right before EPCOT closed for the day. Since Disney allows guests to get in line until the last minute, those crowds don’t disappear when Extended Evening Hours begin.
They stay.
That creates a backlog that carries directly into the extended hours period, limiting how much Deluxe guests can actually accomplish.
Instead of feeling like a fresh start, it feels like you’re picking up right where the daytime crowds left off.
The guest mentioned they were able to ride Soarin’, but even that came with a wait. After that, they decided it wasn’t worth sticking around and left early.

And as more people responded to the Reddit thread, a pattern started to emerge.
EPCOT, more than any other park, seems to struggle with making Extended Evening Hours feel effective.
A big part of that comes down to how the park is designed.
It’s massive. Getting from one attraction to another can take a surprising amount of time. When you only have two hours, those long walks add up fast.
Then there’s the issue of access.
During Extended Evening Hours, much of World Showcase is closed off. That limits movement, reduces available activities, and funnels guests into fewer areas.
For a park known for its atmosphere and variety, that can make the experience feel surprisingly limited.
Of course, not every night plays out this way.

Some guests in the same discussion shared much more positive experiences. They reported shorter waits and the ability to ride multiple attractions without much stress.
But those experiences almost always happened during less crowded times.
That’s the key factor.
Extended Evening Hours at EPCOT can either feel like a huge advantage—or a missed opportunity—depending entirely on crowd levels.
And that’s why more guests are starting to question it.
Not because the perk itself is bad, but because it’s inconsistent.
If everything lines up, it can be great.
If it doesn’t, you may find yourself wondering why you stayed late in the first place.
And based on what’s being shared in that Reddit thread, more guests are starting to ask that exact question.
