Nightly Disney Castle Fireworks on Pause, Guests Wait Hours With No Recourse

Disneyland Resort guests were left waiting for hours this past weekend as multiple evening fireworks shows were unexpectedly paused due to wind conditions. The “Believe…In Holiday Magic” fireworks show was canceled after thousands of Disney Park visitors had already staked out prime viewing spots along Main Street, U.S.A. The lack of early notification caused frustration for many Disneyland Park guests, as they were left with no recourse after waiting for the nighttime spectacular to begin.

At least four times in the last week, Disneyland Resort officials confirmed that the evening’s fireworks shows were canceled due to high winds in Southern California. Disney Park guests who had waited for over an hour were informed only after they had settled into their spots that the show would not take place. A guest on Reddit, u/CoasterCar, shared their experience of attempting to see the fireworks four separate times, only to be disappointed each time due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Weather Complications and Limited Nighttime Shows

Disneyland Resort is limited in how often fireworks can be scheduled due to its proximity to nearby residential areas. The wind issues this time of year further restrict the park’s already limited options for nightly fireworks. Unlike other Disney parks, Disneyland Park doesn’t have the ability to offer fireworks every night, meaning cancellations are particularly impactful for guests who had made an effort to see the few scheduled shows.

On Reddit, many guests commented on how wind cancellations are not a new issue for Disneyland Resort, but they felt that better communication could have alleviated some of the frustration.

“This has been my major complaint though is if they are seeing things wonky with the weather… start making announcements earlier instead of us losing a large chunk of the evening waiting for nothing,” said u/hutchi41.

Disneyland Park has a system for announcing cancellations of nighttime shows due to weather, but many guests expressed frustration that they didn’t receive notifications earlier in the day, which could have helped them avoid waiting.

For now, Disney Park guests hoping to see the fireworks during their visit may have to wait until the weather conditions improve. No additional cancellations have been confirmed; however, with the winter season in full swing, further updates may be necessary as the weather fluctuates.
