Disney Loses Total Power Control, Fireworks Show Goes Rogue

A recent viral video shows a sudden power outage plunging an entire Disney park into darkness during a fireworks show. Disneyland Paris Resort guests watching the Disney Tales of Magic nighttime spectacular were left confused, startled, and ultimately asked to leave Disneyland Park after the performance was cut short.

The incident occurred during a recent presentation of Disney Tales of Magic, the fireworks and projection spectacular that debuted at Disneyland Park in January 2025. The show is known for its sweeping musical score and projection mapping inspired by films like Cinderella (1950), Pinocchio (1940), Encanto (2021), and Lilo & Stitch (2002).

An Instagram video shared by @my_castle_club captured the moment everything went dark. The blackout happened during the Tangled (2010) lantern sequence, when glowing projections typically float up the turrets of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

After a firework launches, the castle and the entire length of Main Street, U.S.A., go pitch black. Disney Park guests can be heard shrieking, laughing, and questioning what had just happened. One voice in the crowd exclaims, “What?!”

Though the power returned seconds later, the brief darkness sent shockwaves through the audience and quickly spread across social media, amassing thousands of likes and comments.

Many locals living near Marne-la-Vallée—the city surrounding Disneyland Paris Resort—claimed the blackout extended far beyond the park. One commenter said, “It was all the area! It went down in my house too.” Another added, “The same thing happened at my house. It happened throughout the Val d’Europe area.”

Guests Asked to Leave After Show Breakdown

While the video doesn’t reveal what happened next, commenters claiming to have been at Disneyland Park that evening said the blackout triggered ongoing technical troubles.

One guest, @natalieeforsyth, recalled that Disneyland Paris Resort attempted to continue with the show, but the special effects never fully recovered from the power disruption:

“The power did come back on pretty quickly and the music kept playing but the projections were non-existent and the fireworks completely stopped so in the end they just cut the music and said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances this will conclude the fireworks show this evening. The park is now closed.’ And kicked us out 😂.”

That same Disney Park guest said the performance had already been struggling before showtime.

“It was weird though because before the show started they said ‘due to unforeseen circumstances we will be playing an adapted version,’” they recalled.

It’s unclear whether the same electrical problems caused the earlier modification. Disney occasionally adapts shows due to weather, backstage malfunctions, or equipment issues.

Disneyland Paris Has Not Commented

As of now, Disneyland Paris Resort has not issued a public statement addressing the blackout, the early closure, or whether the event will impact future performances. Disney Tales of Magic continues to appear on the entertainment schedule. However, guests are advised to check the Disneyland Paris app or website for up-to-date showtimes and cancellation information.
