After nearly six months behind construction walls, one of Magic Kingdom’s most recognizable Fantasyland locations is finally showing signs that its comeback could be right around the corner.
Guests visiting Storybook Circus recently noticed a major change at Big Top Souvenirs, the colorful circus-themed merchandise location that has been closed since February for refurbishment. While Disney still hasn’t announced when the shop will reopen, the latest construction update has many fans feeling optimistic.
It may not be open just yet, but the project is clearly making progress.
The Famous Sign Is Back
Perhaps the biggest clue came when crews removed the striped scrim covering Big Top Souvenirs’ iconic entrance sign.
For weeks, the familiar marquee had been hidden from view while construction continued across the building’s exterior. Now, guests can once again see the freshly painted sign welcoming visitors into Storybook Circus.
The illuminated “Souvenirs” lettering remains wrapped in protective plastic, indicating that work isn’t completely finished. Construction scrim also continues to surround much of the tent, even though Disney installed a new roof earlier this summer.
Even so, uncovering the entrance sign represents one of the most noticeable milestones since the refurbishment began.
Fans Are Hoping for a Quick Return
The timing has naturally fueled speculation about when Disney plans to reopen the location.
With the first Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party arriving on August 7, some fans are wondering whether Big Top Souvenirs could be ready just in time for one of Magic Kingdom’s biggest seasonal events.
The shop sits in a high-traffic area near Dumbo the Flying Elephant, making it a popular stop for families exploring Fantasyland. Inside, guests can browse Disney merchandise, pick up souvenirs, and visit the confectionery section for snacks before continuing through the park.
At this point, however, no reopening date has been announced.
Construction appears to be entering its final stages, but visible work continues around the building, making it difficult to predict exactly when guests will once again walk through the front doors.
Magic Kingdom Remains a Construction Zone
The refurbishment at Big Top Souvenirs is just one piece of a much larger transformation happening throughout Magic Kingdom.
Carousel of Progress remains closed as Disney completes one of the attraction’s biggest updates in years. Frontierland also continues evolving as construction moves forward on Piston Peak National Park, replacing the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. Disney Villains Land is also planned as a future expansion in the same section of the park.
Meanwhile, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has already reopened following its major refurbishment, and work appears to be winding down around the exterior of Haunted Mansion.
There’s also ongoing speculation that Space Mountain could eventually receive a lengthy refurbishment, although Disney has yet to officially announce any such plans.
For now, Fantasyland fans have one reason to celebrate. After months of waiting, Big Top Souvenirs is finally starting to look like itself again, and its return to Magic Kingdom may not be far away.
