Employee at Downtown Disney Shop Arrested for Stealing:

Over $31,000 Stolen

Employee at Downtown Disney Shop Arrested for Stealing:

From the Miami News Day

For years, a surf shop in Downtown Disney was ripped off by its own manager. Deputies said an Orlando man stole pricey watches and sold them on Craigslist, pocketing tens of thousands of dollars.

The store employees did their own detective work to crack the case. The suspect used the same password for his store email and his personal email, and the workers were able to see all the Craigslist transactions for themselves before going to deputies. And when finally confronted, the manager allegedly confessed. He had nothing to say to Eyewitness News Friday.

John Schwetz wasn’t talking from his Metrowest apartment. The 27-year-old bonded out of jail after being arrested Wednesday by Orange County deputies. They’ve been investigating the case for months and said the thefts date back to 2011.

Schwetz was the manager at Curl in Downtown Disney before being fired earlier this year on suspicion he was stealing. A subpoena to Craigslist revealed he sold 66 Nixon watches, which retail for upwards of $3,000 each. Schwetz was allegedly selling them for half price, and pocketed $31,000 in the scheme.

But that’s not all. The store says Schwetz also stole 12 GoPro cameras and sold them for $5,000. Schwetz was charged with grand theft and dealing in stolen property.

While deputies report he’s paid back a fraction of the money, he still has a long way to go to repay what he stole. –
