As the holiday season approaches, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is preparing to dazzle guests with the return of Disney Jollywood Nights, an after-hours celebration of holiday glamour, entertainment, and festive surprises. With offerings ranging from a new ice skating show, Glisten! featuring international champion skaters to exclusive character meet-and-greets, Jollywood Nights promises a night full of holiday cheer. Disney’s event page urges visitors to be mindful of one key preparation: comfortable footwear.
The event’s website strongly recommends that guests wear shoes suited for the evening’s activities. With extensive walking, dancing, and standing in line expected, Disney’s advice emphasizes practicality over fashion. And it’s no wonder! An average day at Disney World can lead to around 20,000 steps or more, so supportive footwear can be the difference between an enjoyable night and one cut short by aching feet. While some guests may be tempted to dress up in formal or heeled shoes to complement the Old Hollywood theme, the extra miles guests are likely to rack up at Jollywood Nights make a strong case for bringing along a sturdy pair of sneakers or flats.
The site reads, “Comfortable shoes are strongly recommended, to help you stroll around all the festive fun… and dance the night away.”
In fact, Disney even enforces a ban on some types of footwear for safety reasons. At The Land pavilion in EPCOT, for example, Crocs are prohibited on escalators after previous incidents in which Crocs became stuck, causing jams and safety risks. For guests who still wish to wear statement footwear for photo ops, packing a second pair of comfortable shoes is a wise strategy. Lockers are also available for rent, providing a convenient place to store backup shoes if needed.
Aside from footwear, Disney has a clear dress code that all guests must follow.
The guidelines focus on maintaining a family-friendly environment and protecting guests’ safety and comfort. Clothing with offensive language, symbols, or revealing styles is not allowed. Transparent clothing is also discouraged unless layered over other items. In the past, some guests have been denied park entry for wearing inappropriate attire or clothing with excessive tears and rips.
Additionally, Disney enforces costume rules, particularly for guests over 14, who are not permitted to wear full costumes outside special events like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party or Disney Jollywood Nights. Even during these events, Disney restricts certain costume elements, such as toy weapons or full-face masks, that could compromise visibility or pose safety risks for other guests.
