‘Finding Nemo’ Attraction Changed After Child Under 4 Was Seriously Injured
A splash pad themed to Finding Nemo (2003) aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship looks a little different these days after a toddler broke his femur playing in the area.
A Family Returns to Find Changes
Courtney Livingston (@courtneylivin) brought her family back aboard the Disney Dream recently, and what she found in the Nemo’s Reef splash pad stopped her in her tracks. On a previous sailing, her young son had fallen from a coral-shaped play structure in the toddler water area and broken his femur. Disney Cruise Line offered the family a return voyage on the same ship, and between the two trips, the coral structure was removed and the surrounding flooring replaced.
Livingston posted this video of the updated area to Instagram this week, flagging the change for her followers:

Questions That Remain Unanswered
Nemo’s Reef is designed exclusively for guests aged four and under, though parents are required to supervise children in the area at all times. Whether the removal of the coral structure is a long-term fix or a placeholder while Disney develops a safer version remains unknown.
The Disney Fantasy also has an identical Nemo’s Reef splash pad, and it’s currently unclear whether that ship has seen the same modifications as the Dream. Disney Cruise Line has not made any public statement about the redesign or the injury that preceded it.
