Disney Cruise Guests Were Stranded After a Major Threat Shut Down the Entire Terminal

Disney cruise guests expecting a routine Monday morning debarkation got something else entirely this week. A bomb threat shut down the B Street Cruise Terminal in downtown San Diego, and the Disney Wonder was caught directly in the middle of it.

Here is what happened and what it means for guests who were onboard.

The Threat and the Disney Cruise Lockdown

At approximately 7 a.m. on March 30, an employee at the B Street Cruise Terminal on Harbor Drive in downtown San Diego received a bomb threat. San Diego Harbor Police Sergeant Jose Torres confirmed the terminal was immediately locked down out of an abundance of caution while Explosive Detection Canine Units were brought in to search the premises.

The Disney Wonder was among the vessels docked at the terminal that morning. Debarkation was halted and guests who were already packed and ready to leave were unable to exit the ship while the search was underway. Video from inside the ship showed passengers gathered in the atrium with their luggage, waiting for word on when they would be allowed off.

Roughly two hours after the lockdown began, police declared the terminal safe, and passengers were finally permitted to disembark. Authorities did not release any additional details about the nature of the threat, and the investigation remained active at the time of reporting.

What Guests Onboard The Disney Cruise Experienced

Debarkation day is already the least exciting day of any cruise. Bags are packed, vacation is over, and everyone just wants to get home. Spending two unplanned hours on board while bomb-detection dogs clear the terminal is a jarring end to what is supposed to be a carefully managed Disney experience.

Disney Cruise Line has not issued a public statement about the incident beyond what local news outlets reported. The response from San Diego Harbor Police was swift and the all-clear came within two hours, but for guests sitting in the atrium watching the clock, those two hours felt anything but routine.

This Is Not the Only Recent Incident for Disney Cruise Line

The San Diego lockdown comes at an already difficult moment for the cruise line. Earlier this month, a gastroenteritis outbreak was reported on the Disney Adventure, the newest ship in the fleet, following a voyage that ran from March 16 to 19 out of Singapore. At least 9 people reported symptoms, including 8 passengers and 1 crew member. The Singapore Food Agency launched an investigation, and affected guests received medical attention without requiring hospitalization.

The Disney Adventure only entered service in March 2026 with its maiden voyage departing Singapore on March 10. The ship is the largest in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, carrying up to approximately 6,700 passengers, and represents the company’s first permanent deployment in Asia. Despite the excitement around its launch, the ship has already received mixed reviews, and the illness outbreak added an unwelcome headline to what was supposed to be a milestone moment for the brand.

A family aboard the Disney Wonder also faced an extended quarantine earlier this year following a suspected mumps diagnosis. Another Disney ship was involved in a reported illness incident. This was aboard the Disney Wish in 2023, when dozens of guests fell ill.

What This Means for Guests

The bomb threat in San Diego was not Disney’s fault, and the police response was exactly what it should have been. A two-hour delay is inconvenient, but it is the result of proper safety protocol doing its job.

What the broader picture shows is a cruise line navigating a stretch of difficult headlines across multiple ships at the same time. Disney Cruise Line remains one of the most respected names in the industry, and none of these incidents reflects a systemic failure. But guests with upcoming sailings should be aware that the last several weeks have been unusually eventful for the fleet.
