Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort has become one of the most popular hotels at Walt Disney World thanks to its upgraded rooms, impressive dining options, and moderate pricing. For many guests, it’s the perfect balance between affordability and deluxe-style amenities.
Now, however, some travelers may be thinking twice before booking a stay.
Disney has confirmed that a lengthy refurbishment is coming to one of the resort’s busiest areas, and while the hotel will remain open throughout the project, the announcement is already causing some guests to reconsider their vacation plans.
More Than a Year of Construction Ahead
Beginning on August 10, 2026, Disney will start refurbishing the Convention Center at Coronado Springs Resort. The project will also include work in the nearby El Centro Corridor and surrounding areas.
Unlike many Disney maintenance projects that last a few weeks or a couple of months, this one is expected to continue until late September 2027.
That’s a significant amount of time for a resort to operate while construction is taking place.
Disney says the refurbishment will happen in phases, meaning only certain sections will be affected at any given time. The company also plans to perform much of the work overnight in an effort to reduce disruptions during the day.
Even so, Disney has noted that guests could still see or hear construction activity during their stay.
Not Every Guest Will Be Concerned
Whether this update changes someone’s vacation plans will likely depend on how they use their Disney resort.
Many visitors leave early every morning for the parks and don’t return until after fireworks. For those guests, construction at the hotel may barely register.
Others take a much different approach.
Some families intentionally schedule pool days, enjoy leisurely mornings, or spend evenings relaxing around the resort instead of racing from attraction to attraction. Those guests often choose Coronado Springs because they actually want to experience everything the property has to offer.
For them, the possibility of construction nearby could become a deciding factor.
The Resort Still Has Plenty To Offer
Despite the upcoming refurbishment, Coronado Springs continues to be one of Disney’s strongest moderate resorts.
The Dig Site pool remains one of the resort’s biggest selling points, complete with its towering Mayan pyramid centerpiece, waterslide, and spacious hot tub. Families looking for a resort that offers plenty to do outside the parks still have a lot to enjoy.
Dining also remains a major reason guests book the hotel.
Toledo continues to be one of the better table-service restaurants on Disney property, while Dahlia Lounge offers a relaxing atmosphere with beautiful views. Rix Sports Bar & Grill has developed a loyal following as well, giving guests several quality options without leaving the resort.
None of those experiences are expected to disappear during the refurbishment.
A Bigger Concern for Convention Visitors
The project could have a greater impact on business travelers.
Because the Convention Center itself is being refurbished, conferences and large events may operate differently depending on which phase of construction is underway. Individual meeting spaces may become temporarily unavailable while work progresses through the building.
Disney has not indicated that conventions will stop, but attendees should expect adjustments throughout the project.
Is It Worth Staying?
There’s no universal answer.
If your Disney vacation revolves around the theme parks, Coronado Springs may still be an excellent option. Construction will be limited as much as possible, and the resort’s restaurants, recreation, and accommodations remain available.
However, guests looking for the quietest possible stay may decide to explore other Disney Resort hotels until the project is complete.
The refurbishment doesn’t make Coronado Springs a bad choice. It simply adds another consideration during the booking process.
For anyone planning a Walt Disney World vacation between August 2026 and late September 2027, it’s worth weighing the resort’s many strengths against the possibility of encountering construction during your stay.
