Disney Closes off Main Street, U.S.A., Area at Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom Park is making changes to its turn-of-the-century restaurant at the end of Main Street, U.S.A.
The Plaza Restaurant has operated on Main Street, U.S.A., since Magic Kingdom Park opened on October 1, 1971. The turn-of-the-century-inspired restaurant offers casual American fare for lunch and dinner, ranging from around $15 to $35 per guest. Make sure to save room for dessert, like a classic banana split or ice cream sundae! Although reservations are required, The Plaza Restaurant often has the most availability out of all the restaurants at Magic Kingdom Park.
Last year, crews began an unannounced refurbishment of The Plaza Restaurant’s exterior. Since then, construction walls have surrounded the area, blocking off certain parts of Main Street, U.S.A., from guest view. A few weeks ago, a themed scrim was installed on the upper part of the restaurant’s exterior, concealing some kind of construction work.
On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the themed scrim had been removed, revealing The Plaza Restaurant’s awning and roof. Nothing major appears to have been changed, so the scrim likely concealed nothing more than simple maintenance like painting.
Construction walls still surround part of The Plaza Restaurant, and the flower beds on the exterior second floor remain empty, suggesting that the refurbishment work isn’t complete. However, whether Walt Disney World Resort will block off more of the building remains unclear.
The Plaza Restaurant remains open during this unannounced refurbishment, and the interior hasn’t been affected. Check the Walt Disney World Resort website or My Disney Experience app for reservations.
