Disney Changes How Guests Can Ride New Test Track Days Before Reopening

Excitement is building at EPCOT as Test Track prepares to return to the road with a refreshed look, feel, and story. Starting July 22, 2025, guests can experience a completely reimagined version of the high-speed attraction presented by General Motors, blending future-forward thrills with a nod to the past.

This latest chapter in the Test Track story was first revealed during D23 Expo 2024, when Josh D’Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, shared an early peek at the transformation. “Imagineers dream, create, design and build these stories into real places,” D’Amaro said. “Plans are drawn. Dirt is moving.” His words offered a clear signal: change is accelerating across Disney Parks.

Indeed, this new Test Track is more than a simple upgrade, it’s an homage to World of Motion, the original EPCOT attraction that once stood in the same spot. Imagineers set out to capture that same spirit of optimism and creativity that helped define EPCOT’s early days, combining immersive storytelling with cutting-edge ride technology.

Before the official debut, Annual Passholders were invited to enjoy exclusive previews on July 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, and 19. Notably, July 17 was left off the list. On preview days, Passholders could join the virtual queue via the My Disney Experience app at 7:00 a.m. (with a valid park reservation) or at 1:00 p.m. (no reservation required, but valid pass still needed).

The preview for July 13 reached capacity almost instantly, with the 7:00 a.m. queue filling up in just three seconds—a testament to just how eager fans are to experience the updated attraction.

In a surprising twist, Disney shifted its virtual queue strategy midway through previews. On July 18, some Annual Passholders reported being allowed to enter the Test Track line without a virtual queue pass. Instead, cast members simply requested to see Passholder credentials for entry. While it’s unclear whether this approach will continue through the final preview day on July 19, it did allow more guests a chance to take the wheel before the public launch.

When Test Track opens to all guests on July 22, it will become one of EPCOT’s top-tier Lightning Lane selections, replacing Soarin’ Around the World in that category. That means guests can experience the attraction either through the standby line or by choosing it as their top-tier selection in a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, alongside two lower-tier EPCOT attractions.

The update to Test Track is just one of many changes sweeping across Walt Disney World Resort. At Magic Kingdom, work has begun on the “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion, prompting a temporary closure of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, plans are already in motion for a new land inspired by Monsters, Inc., continuing the trend of immersive new experiences across the parks.

Whether you’re a longtime fan of the original World of Motion or a first-time rider, this latest incarnation of Test Track promises to propel guests into an exciting future, with a heartfelt nod to where it all began.

Thomas Hitchen

When he’s not thinking about the Magic Kingdom, Thomas is usually reading a book, becoming desperately obsessed with fictional characters, or baking something delicious (his favorite is chocolate cake -- to bake and to eat). He's a dreamer and grew up on Mulan saving the world, Jim Hawkins soaring through the stars, and Padmé Amidala fighting a Nexu. At the Parks, he loves to ride Everest, stroll down Main Street with an overstuffed pin lanyard around his neck, and eat as many Mickey-shaped ice creams as possible. His favorite character is Han Solo (yes, he did shoot first), and his… More »
