Guests Stunned as Disney Cast Member Reportedly Strips and Jumps Into Water
A routine afternoon at Disneyland took an unexpected turn yesterday.
The Rivers of America is one of Disneyland Park’s oldest landmarks, winding around Tom Sawyer Island and carrying several attractions through Frontierland and New Orleans Square.
The artificial river is used by the Mark Twain Riverboat, Sailing Ship Columbia and Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes. Guests are normally kept away from the water except when boarding those attractions.
Cast Member Seen Swimming in Disneyland River
Visitors were surprised on July 23 when a Disneyland Resort cast member reportedly removed part of his clothing and jumped into the Rivers of America.
Video shared on TikTok appears to show the employee without a shirt, splashing in the water before climbing back onto the shore.
According to @PixieDustArchive, the cast member threw his keys and walkie-talkie into the river shortly before jumping in.

The footage does not show what happened before the incident or explain why the employee entered the water. It is also unclear why he returned to shore so quickly.
His costume appears to identify him as a member of Disneyland’s custodial department. Custodial cast members clean public areas, empty trash cans and respond to spills and other maintenance issues throughout the park.
Disney has not publicly commented on the incident. The company has also not confirmed whether the employee was removed from duty or faced disciplinary action.
Some viewers criticized the cast member for entering a restricted area and throwing work equipment into the river.
Others responded with concern, pointing to the demanding conditions faced by Disneyland employees working outdoors.
“As a former Disney custodian, I get it,” one TikTok user wrote.
“The literal shit I had to clean, outside in the heat all day, lifting heavy bags, with my coworkers who had failed every other assessment, with others who had multiple SH reports, I get it.”
“The amount of panic attacks I had on stage, the amount of times I nearly passed out, everything about that job was terrible. Hope this dudes doing well.”
Another commenter wrote, “I honestly feel pretty bad, custodial are the HARDEST working humans at the park and this guy must’ve just had a final breakdown and just jumped in,
“hope he gets better and better opportunities in the future, these are really hard times the parks is in.”
The cast member’s condition and current employment status remain unknown.
Rivers of America Has Seen Previous Emergencies
Although the latest incident ended with the employee climbing out of the water, the Rivers of America has been connected to several serious accidents during Disneyland’s history.
In 1973, an 18-year-old guest drowned while attempting to carry his younger brother across the river from Tom Sawyer Island.
The brothers had reportedly remained on the island after Disneyland closed. The 10-year-old survived by staying afloat until a ride operator reached him.
Another 18-year-old drowned during Disneyland’s Grad Nite event in 1983.
He and a friend entered a restricted area, took an emergency rubber boat and tried to cross the river. Both had reportedly been drinking. Lawsuits later filed against Disney and the trip organizer were unsuccessful.
The river was also the site of a fatal accident involving the Sailing Ship Columbia in 1998.
As the ship approached its dock on Christmas Eve, a metal cleat tore free and struck two guests and a cast member. One of the guests later died from his injuries.
Investigators criticized the training given to the employee who was handling the ship at the time.
There have also been reports of people entering the former Rivers of America at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom.
Disney permanently closed and drained the Florida river, plus shuttered Tom Sawyer Island, in 2025 as part of plans to build a new Cars-themed area in Frontierland.
Disneyland’s Rivers of America remains open, with all three of its water-based attractions continuing to operate.
