Disney Brought Life Back Into a Magic Kingdom Attraction and It Officially Reopens Tomorrow
Tomorrow is April 8th, and Magic Kingdom is about to look meaningfully different than it has for the past several months.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin officially reopens tomorrow after a lengthy closure during which Disney Imagineering completely reimagined the attraction from the ground up. A soft opening period has been underway for the past week, giving early guests a preview of what’s to come. Tomorrow, the doors open to everyone, and the full official experience begins.

If you are heading to Magic Kingdom tomorrow, Tomorrowland needs to be your first stop.
What Is Actually Opening Tomorrow
The reimagined Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is not a simple restoration of what closed. Disney changed enough fundamental elements of the attraction to justify the word reimagined and guests who rode the original version will notice the difference immediately.
The most significant change is the new handheld blasters. The original mounted cannons are gone, replaced by handheld blasters that can be removed completely from their holders for better aiming throughout the ride. The new blasters feature always-on lasers, updated sound effects, new lighting, and a vibration effect that provides physical feedback during gameplay. The freedom of movement this creates, compared to the fixed-cannon format, changes how the attraction’s competitive element of the attraction works in ways that frequent guests will appreciate immediately.
The targets throughout the attraction have been replaced with reactive technology that flashes green when hit, giving riders instant confirmation that a shot registered. White and flashing illuminated targets offer higher point values, adding a layer of strategy that the original static targets never provided.
The ride vehicles are completely new, with updated colors inspired by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and digital monitors in each vehicle that display real-time scoring and rider rankings throughout the experience. Seeing your score and ranking update in real time rather than waiting until the end of the ride changes the energy of the competitive format considerably.
A brand-new character, Buddy, has been added as a pre-ride introduction. Buddy is a robot created by Walt Disney Imagineering and Pixar Animation Studios who serves as Star Command’s newest support character and walks riders through a tutorial before the mission begins. The addition gives the attraction a proper narrative foundation that the original version never fully established.

Why Tomorrow Is a Big Deal at Magic Kingdom
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has been part of Tomorrowland since 1998. Its absence during the refurbishment left a gap in the land that Magic Kingdom guests have been feeling for months. Tomorrow, that gap closes with a version that improves on the original in virtually every category.
The soft opening period, which has been running this past week, ends tomorrow, and Lightning Lane availability returns alongside confirmed wait times in the My Disney Experience app. With Magic Kingdom currently operating at Spring Break crowd levels, wait times for the attraction will climb quickly once the official opening generates attention. Guests visiting tomorrow should prioritize Tomorrowland early in the day.
