If you are walking through the Magic Kingdom soon, you might spot something curious near the hub. Right next to one of Walt Disney World’s most popular character dining locations, crews have started an unannounced construction project, leaving park-goers wondering what is coming next.
Here is a look at the mysterious new construction site outside The Crystal Palace, the land clearing currently underway, and a few theories on what Disney Imagineers might be building in the heart of the park.
A Sudden Appearance Outside The Crystal Palace
According to reports dated July 31, 2026, a new construction zone has rapidly taken shape just steps away from the main entrance to The Crystal Palace.
If you are navigating the walkway that connects The Crystal Palace to the entrance of Adventureland and the Cinderella Castle hub, you will immediately notice the enclosed area on the right side of the building. Disney has erected green construction walls along the path and placed rolling hedge planters in front of them. These temporary barricades block the area from guests’ view during the day while also serving as the primary entrance for crews working overnight.
The good news for visitors? Even though the walls are placed right along the edge of a highly traveled sidewalk, the construction is not currently impeding guest flow. Both the main walkways and the nearby bridge remain fully accessible, and visitors can easily pass by the site without any major disruptions.
Tearing Up the Terrain
The space behind the construction walls looks very different today than it did a few weeks ago. Disney has actively cleared the site of the vegetation that once occupied it.
- Shrubs and Trees Removed: A swath of land directly behind the planters, previously filled with bushes, shrubs, and trees, has been completely cleared.
- A Patch of Dirt: What remains behind the barrier is just a newly exposed patch of dirt.
- Staged Materials: Crews have already begun staging some construction materials nearby.
- Internal Walls: A green, fabric-wrapped wall has been erected inside the zone to block off specific areas from prying eyes further.
- The Landscape: Just past this freshly cleared spot, the land naturally slopes downward toward a lagoon.
So, What Is Disney Actually Building?
The million-dollar question remains: What is the purpose of this sudden land clearing? As of now, Disney has not made any official announcements or released any concept art regarding this specific project. Theory 1: A Dedicated Stroller Parking Area
The most prominent theory is that Disney is constructing a brand-new, dedicated stroller parking area. The Crystal Palace is famous for its Winnie the Pooh character dining, making it a massive draw for families with young children. This means the area is constantly congested with parked strollers.
The cleared land sits directly next to a well-traveled guest walkway, making it an ideal spot to corral strollers out of the main flow of traffic. This would make a lot of sense, as Disney has recently made similar crowd-control moves elsewhere in the park. For instance, they recently transformed the former Laughin’ Place Playground in Frontierland into a dedicated stroller parking zone for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
Theory 2: Expanded Wait Area for The Crystal Palace
Another very plausible theory is that Disney is simply extending the existing pavement. By paving over the previously landscaped area, they could create slightly more space for guests to wait for their dining reservations. The Crystal Palace is notoriously busy, and during peak meal times, the current waiting area can become crowded, pushing waiting families into the main walkway.

While this project is incredibly small compared to the massive “Beyond Big Thunder” expansion or the Cars retheme of the Rivers of America coming to Magic Kingdom, it is a perfect example of Disney constantly tweaking its parks.
