Customized MagicBands Will Soon Be Available at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World

MagicBands are about to become a lot more personable. Soon guests will be able to put their own spin on the bands. MagicBand on Demand will be a kiosk in Tomorrowland that allows guests to first pick a color.

Eight will be available, including purple, which is not an option with traditional MagicBands. From there guests can choose from 40 different graphics. The guest’s name can also be added on the outside of the band. The band will then be printed right away, and the ink dries immediately so there is no time spent waiting.

The new MagicBands will cost $21.95 for a custom design. Personalizing the band will cost extra, that MagicBand will be $29.95. You will also be able to create a D-Tech phone case at the same location.

Disney Parks Blog reported on October 22 that the new station would open on Friday, October 23, 2015. That blog entry has since been removed. No word has been released on whether or not the date has been moved back, or if things are still on target. The kiosk is supposed to be located inside the Tomorrowland Power & Light Co., which is next to Space Mountain.

Here Are Ways We Think Magic Bands Make Walt Disney World Better written by Brittany DiCologero:

7. No need to carry hotel keys
With Magic Bands, there is no need to have a separate hotel room key. How many times have you gone back to your resort after a long day at the parks only to realize you’ll need to spend an extra five minutes or so digging for your resort key at the bottom of your purse. With Magic Bands, this problem is completely eliminated as the band will always be attached to your wrist. This makes it so much easier to get in and out of hotel rooms, especially during the groggy post-wishes rush back to the resort, when searching around for a room key is the last thing you’d want to be doing.

6. Easier resort room charging
Magic Bands make it even easier to charge purchases to your resort bill than ever before. With Magic Bands, it doesn’t matter if your sister took the backpack with your wallet in it into the bathroom, you can still go ahead and buy things in the meantime by charging them to your resort.

5. Automatic photo association
One of the coolest things about Magic Bands is that simply by wearing one your ride photos will automatically be linked to your My Disney Experience account. While experiencing the rides that take photos, sensors in the ride pick up the chip in your band from a distance, and add photos to your account. This means that you can skip the line at the photo counter and view and order photos online once you get home from your trip. It also means that you don’t need to touch your Magic Band under the screen where you can preview the photos after exiting the attractions. (Note that the message on the screen says to touch cards, and has no mention of bands.) On some attractions, like the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and Tower of Terror, an on-ride video is also automatically added to your account.

4. Water proof
The fact that Magic Bands are waterproof just made your visits to the resort pool and water parks so much easier. So many guests face the dilemma of where to put money at the water parks. Do you get a locker, that you’ll have to go all the way back to if you want to buy anything? Do you get one of those waterproof lanyards and still risk going into the wave pool? By wearing a Magic Band, you can alleviate the need to carry money all together. Because you’ll have resort charging privileges tied to your wrist, there is no need to carry around any extra cash.

3. Personalization
Not only are Magic Bands incredibly functional, but they make the perfect accessory also. You can buy a number of sleeves, and different attachments to make your Magic Band more “you,” and you can also get even more creative by painting it, or covering it in rhinestones. If you don’t mind spending the extra money, there are also a number of different designs of Magic Bands, some being limited edition that are only available for purchase during special events.

2. Harder to lose
Compared to an ordinary park ticket, a Magic Band is much harder to lose track of. Because your Magic Band should be worn on your wrist, for essentially your entire vacation, you should not have to worry about losing it the same way you would worry about losing a regular ticket. In general, as long as you are where you need to be, your Magic Band should be there right by your side.

1. Always easily accessible
The number one way that Magic Bands make Disney World even better is how they are always easily accessible since they are kept on your wrist. Throughout the course of a day, your Magic Band is used to enter the park, redeem Fastpasses, make purchases, and pay for food using the room charge method or the dining plan. Prior to Magic Bands, you would have had to take out at least, but likely more than one, card to make all of those different transactions possible, but now all of these options are literally in the palm of your hand at all times.

About PaulaK

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
