Cedar Point Incident: Guests Left Dangling at 160-Feet, Update Given

Six Flags was already facing pressure from fans before this weekend. Now, a high-profile coaster at one of its parks has drawn new attention for an unexpected stop that left riders in a dramatic position for nearly half an hour.

The ride, Siren’s Curse at Cedar Point, was introduced in June as one of the standout additions of the season. Billed as North America’s tallest, longest, and fastest tilt coaster, it arrives amid a period of transformation for the company, which merged with Cedar Fair in July 2024.

Together, the newly formed company now operates over 40 parks across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

While the merger brought promises of innovation and growth, it also triggered concern within the theme park community. Several longstanding parks have been marked for closure, including Six Flags America, which will shut its gates this November, and California’s Great America, which will cease operations after the 2027 season.

Guests have also theorized that Michigan’s Adventure is next in line after the theme park axed its Halloween celebrations.

Those closures followed the quiet removal of rides like Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. Despite early speculation, the park did not confirm the ride’s retirement until after it had already closed to guests.

Coaster Pauses Mid-Tilt on a Hot July Day

Over the weekend, Siren’s Curse drew headlines of its own. The ride came to a stop while riders were tilted at a 45-degree angle, suspended 160 feet in the air. According to guest reports, the pause lasted between 20 and 30 minutes before the coaster resumed its cycle.

“Sirens curse got stopped/stuck mid tilt for about 30 minutes,” one parkgoer posted on social media. “It’s gotta be terrifying for some being stuck like that for so long, ride ops should be ashamed of themselves especially for a ride like this with a psychological element to it.”

The ride’s dramatic tilt and storytelling—centered on eerie legends from beneath Lake Erie—are core to its appeal, and the suspended moment only added to the intensity of the experience. The stoppage was not the first for Siren’s Curse, which also paused briefly during its opening weekend and again on July 2.

In a statement shared via the Akron Beacon Journal, Six Flags spokesperson Tony Clark confirmed the ride continued its operation following the pause. “The coaster’s safety system performed as designed, the ride was restarted, and guests continued their ride,” he said. “It reopened shortly after and all guests exited the ride safely.”

No Cause Confirmed, But Ride Resumed Quickly

While the company did not specify what caused the pause, some on social media speculated that the coaster may have been halted manually due to a rider using a phone. The attraction reopened the same day.

Despite the online buzz, Six Flags did not characterize the incident as abnormal. Pauses like this one are not uncommon on major new coasters, especially during their first operating months.

Siren’s Curse remains one of the most high-profile openings of the summer and has drawn significant attention from both roller coaster enthusiasts and casual parkgoers. Still, its series of pauses has amplified discussion about the current state of Six Flags’ operations, especially as the company refines its portfolio and focuses on performance.

Six Flags and Cedar Point have not announced any further changes related to the ride. Siren’s Curse continues to operate at the park, which remains one of the flagship destinations in the company’s growing portfolio.

Whether the dramatic pause becomes a memorable thrill or a point of concern depends on who you ask—but either way, it’s clear that all eyes remain on what comes next for the newly expanded Six Flags empire.
