Family of Cast Member Who Died at Disneyland Plans to Sue
The magic that Disney theme parks are known for would not exist without the incredible cast members who work their hardest every day. Cast members keep the parks clean, keep the dozens of rides and attractions moving, create memorable character meet-and-greets, and so much more. Cast members also have to deal with thousands of guests every day, and manage to keep a smile on their face when the guest is less-than-kind to them.

Over at Disneyland Resort, some cast members work at one of the most exclusive spots in any Disney theme park — Club 33. Club 33 is a private dining club that costs tens of thousands of dollars to join and thousands of dollars each year to stay in. It opened in 1967 and is located above the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction in Adventureland.
On June 8, Disney fans were shocked to learn about the sudden death of Bonnye Lear, one of the managers at Club 33. According to reports, Lear, 60, was riding backstage in a golf cart at the theme park. She fell out of the golf cart, which was traveling behind Critter Country, and hit her head.
The accident occurred on June 5, and Ms. Lear was transported to the local hospital in “grave condition.” She tragically passed away on Friday, June. 7.
Lear had been a Disneyland cast member for 24 years, and her fellow cast members were devastated by the sudden loss.

Just days after Lear’s death, officials with the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. Reports state that there may have been a collision that caused Lear to fall off the golf cart, and OSHA is investigating that as well.
And now, it appears that Bonnye Lear’s family is preparing for a major lawsuit against Disney.
A GoFundMe was recently set up to help pay for the funeral costs, as well as help Ms. Lear’s three children, who suddenly found themselves without their mother. However, the GoFundMe also states that the money will be used to find a lawyer.
Due to the unfortunate circumstances that the Lear family has had to face, they are seeking funds for any costs associated with the rectification of this tragic accident including cremation, memorial service, a strong legal team to seek justice for her death, and any other unexpected costs. Bonnye’s 3 children have been faced with unimaginable hurdles and could use a lot of support in these trying times.
At the time of publication, the GoFundMe has raised just under $5,000 with a $100,000 goal.
Shortly after Ms. Lear’s death, Disneyland President Ken Potrock sent out a message to all cast members, saying that the company was “focused on supporting Bonnye’s family.”
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Bonnye Lear.
