Boma – Flavors of Africa: “Yummy breakfast buffet at Disney and lovely resort”
This review is for eating at Bomas at Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World for Breakfast meal (the restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner – both served buffet style). The restaurant and the resort are quite stunning with an African themed decor with lots of thatched roofs, wood pilings, bridges, natural stone and earthern color scheme. The visual impact alone increases the caliber of the dining/eating experience alone and increases ones anticipation of the food.
Myself, DW and our 2 boys went there one morning about 0800 hours for the breakfast buffet. The buffet has a wide variety of items that has something for the whole family to enjoy. There are roasted meats done African style over an open fire with spices, along with African hot cereal grains and sides. You have your standard ‘American” breakfast items such as mickey waffles, pancakes, french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and pork. They serve custom made omelets as well on request.
There is a decent selection (could stand to be larger) of fresh fruit – apples, grapefruit, melons along with yogurt and cottage cheese and a cheese tray. There are also standard breakfast cereals and a wide variety of breakfast pastries and baked goods (all home made and delicious).
The food selection is quite extensive and fresh- the challenge here is to know when to stop eating and also sit back and enjoy the decor and atmosphere and if you have a moment, talk to the staff both local and from Africa – they are all lovely and very interesting to talk with.
As a side note, we found the West African Frunch (a combination of lemonade, pineapple juice, guava juice, orange juice, and papaya juice) to be very sweet and hard to drink – we stuck with orange juice, water and tea.
After the buffet breakfast, we proceeded to take a walk around the resort – the pool area, arcade and the kids loved to play on the resort playground jungle gym. We also went to the various animal viewing spots and then sat in the rocking chairs by Ogden’s Fireplace and read a story book together. All in all, it is a very good place on property to have a full and hearty breakfast and works well assuming you are not in a rush to get to a theme park that morning.
