Disney World Theme Park Closed, Entry Sign Removed

Walt Disney World Resort is dismantling the entrance sign for Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park as the facility approaches its February reopening. The iconic billboard-style display that has greeted guests for decades is being stripped down, with major elements already removed and the structure surrounded by construction equipment.

Construction crews have removed nearly all identifying features from the Disney’s Blizzard Beach entrance sign, WDWNT reported on Monday, January 26. Scaffolding and traffic cones now surround the structure where text, graphics, and character elements once welcomed arriving guests.

All text has been stripped from the sign except a small directional arrow reading “THIS WAY.” Ice Gator—the water park’s mascot, who traditionally perched atop a sun in the upper left corner—has been completely removed from the display.

The ski slope background mural displays severe deterioration, with large sections missing paint entirely. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t revealed whether crews will repair the existing sign components or replace the entire structure before reopening.

Only the digital portion remains functional, rotating through closure information: “BLIZZARD BEACH IS CLOSED,” “FOR REFURBISHMENT,” “SKI YA AT TYPHOON LAGOON,” and “Winter Summerland 10am – 10pm.”

X (formerly known as Twitter) user @bioreconstruct shared aerial photographs documenting the annual refurbishment across Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. The images reveal construction activity throughout the facility beyond just the entrance sign modifications.

Disney’s Blizzard Beach has been closed since September 2025, giving crews five months to complete maintenance, upgrades, and the entrance sign project before the February 15 reopening date.

Water Park Swap Scheduled

Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park returns to operation on February 15, 2026. That same day, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park closes for its seasonal refurbishment, meaning Saturday, February 14, is the final day to visit Typhoon Lagoon before its maintenance period.

The alternating closure strategy ensures Walt Disney World Resort maintains at least one water park operational during non-peak months. Both facilities will run simultaneously from May 26 through September 8, 2026, when summer crowds require maximum capacity. Disney Resort hotel guests staying during that period receive complimentary water park admission on check-in day.
